David Wright urges Mets fans to trust ‘proven winner’ David Stearns after transformative offseason

  1. Even in a supposed “down season” Stearns put together a roster that’s way better than any David Wright Mets roster during his tenure outside of 2006.

  2. Im really high on Stearns, I love his approach and Im thrilled that he’s with the Mets. That being said, I know David Wright wants to give high praise but ‘proven winner’ is a bit of a stretch. Milwaukee makes the playoffs every year, sure, but they have not won a world series. They’re the Mike Tomlin Steelers of baseball! Until Stearns gets a ring, we’re all gonna have to press the brakes a little.

  3. It’s funny how many people were shocked and upset that the new front office shook up the roster and went in a different direction.

That’s why you bring in new management…….

  4. I think this year was a learning experience for stearns because he lost diaz and pete by playing games and you can’t do that with stars.

  5. I want to trust, but it feels like Stearns is putting a lot of faith in young guys taking a big step in development/consistency AND some other players having big bounce back seasons like Devin Williams and Luis Robert jr. Those are two pretty big variables.

It also feels like baseball is at a very weird place with contracts, not sure why Stearns is refusing to go past 3 years for anyone, if a salary cap is coming/how contracts on the books will affect said cap, and now the dodgers seemingly having unlimited money and even other teams willing to spend are miles away from their contracts. It feels like we won’t be able to judge this off-season truly for like another 2-3 years

  6. I cant trust sterns because he lies to my face every time he opens his mouth. The fact the man said he wanted alonso and diaz back but made no serious effort to do it is enough for me to not trust him. He made horrible decisions in 2025 also. The only thing that will make me trust him is seeing the mets win it all.

  7. I trust Stearns because he operates unlike most if not all the GMs we’ve had over the last 30 years. He’s got full authority to implement his vision for the teamlThe Mets are guided by fact based decision making, are known as the best pitching factory in the league as of today and are known as a well run franchise. Think of the last time the owner and the GM / POBO were this aligned for the Mets.

Stearns did what any good boss coming in would do. He didn’t fire everyone on day 1. He let them play it out, gave them a chance and they rewarded his patience with that great 2024 run. But then they failed miserably and he’s doing what anyone would have expected him to. We are knocking on the door to perennial playoff runs. You can’t see it day to day but zoom out and compare Jan 2021 to Jan 2026. #1 farm system, a really good team that would be one of the best under the Wilpons easily, we’re offering huge dollars to Bichette and Tucker, we have a bunch of young prospects on the horizon and we have the full weight of Cohen’s wallet behind Stearns.

Future is very bright. We just have to weather it for a few years but 2026 will be no slouch. It will be a great year I think

  8. Random bit from Wright’s statement, but I found it interesting that Wright mentioned knowing Nimmo and Diaz well personally but didn’t know Pete well personally. It makes sense that Wright knows Nimmo better since they overlapped as players, but Wright getting closer with Diaz rather than Pete as guys who respectively joined the major league squad in 2019 is interesting to me. Wright has spent a good amount of time around the org over the years even after retiring so he’s been around. I guess it’s not weird that they didn’t click/connect, just a little surprising to me given the whole “corner infielder, star homegrown player” parallel.

  9. I’m gonna let Stearns cook and build the roster he envisions. Can’t predict relatively proven guys you trade for sucking ass

  10. I think stearns is a good GM and the right guy for the Mets. He’s put together winning teams, but he’s not a proven winner, yet. You gotta win the whole thing to become a proven winner.

  11. I think this season will make or break his reputation in NYC. He built up a team in 2024 that failed out the gates. He made mid season adjustments and the team he refit together went on a tear. So start off with a failure but pivoted well and succeeded. I’d rate it .25 bad, .75 good.

2025, he (well Cohen really cause he was willing to spend whatever) got Soto, and made other moves. The team was a failure. At the deadline, his moves all failed there too except for Rogers really. So 2025 was 100% fail.

2025 off season, opinions are divided. Time to wait and see how the moves play out, and how the deadline response works out. If 2026 is a failure than that’s gonna really sour people on him. If it’s a success, then I think people who still doubt him will be in the minority.

  12. Judging by the downvotes in here for telling the truth Mets PR is finally back from Christmas break.
