Story time:

I was a huge fan as a kid (it was so much easier in the 90's) and, with all due respect to the Legion of Doom, Rod was always my number one guy. Come Christmas time my parents did the classic parent move of getting me *almost* what I asked for: a black Lindros jersey that was 2 sizes too big. Still a great gift for a kid who rarely got to show out in anything that wasn't fished from the discount bin and I still rock that jersey to a couple of games a year, it layers great over a couple sweatshirts in the dead of winter like today.

Anyway I told my wife that story a while back to explain why I also support Carolina. This weekend she surprised me with this gem for my birthday. Complete with tickets to the Canes game in April.

My teenage self could not be prouder.

  1. I don’t hate the other brands that make sweaters for the NHL (except you fanatics…) but man do I love that CCM logo.

  2. I admit this 101% – I was a big Big E fan… Lindros was like my sports hero as a kid… BUT … obviously it ended very badly…

    but… MAN OH MAN…

When we got Keith Primeau, he was disgruntled (he’s been disgruntled like everywhere but Philly, seems to me… 🤣) and Lindros was disgruntled and when we went to trade for Primeau, they wanted Lindros. Clarke said No. Wound up giving up Rod The Bod, a former 2nd-rd-pick Goalie, and another 2nd Rd Pick. Brind’Amour promptly leads the Hurricanes to the Finals (where they ran into The Left Wing Lock, lol…) and won a Cup a few years later.

Lindros never played for us again barely.

If *only* we had just traded Lindros for Primeau … we’d be trotting out Primeau, Brind’Amour, & Daymond Langkow as our top-3 Centers, and a year or so later, adding Jeremy Roenick.

I mean I love Rod Brind’Amour and of course Keith Primeau but IF ONLY… what could have been…

  3. They did a segment on Rod in the 90s when Dorney and Coatesy were still mainstays in the broadcast team that featured video from a photo shoot he did for a fitness magazine. He was beyond ripped. The whole Rod The Bod thing was and still is real.

One of my all time favorite players, he absolutely never took a single shift off. Dude eats, sleeps, and breathes hockey. He is truly my dream coach for this franchise.

I have this jersey as well and it is my #1 in the rotation. CCM for life.

  4. Omg NICE. I have a Rod Canes one because the Rod flyers jerseys are so expensive

  5. I have the same jersey. I distinctly remember getting it for christmas from my parents in 1999. I wore it proudly that new years eve, when I was hanging out with my rangers fan friend.

Cut to around to early february (?) of 2000, he calls me at school. I pick up the phone and he’s just laughing because he heard about the trade, which is how I found out that Brindy was no longer a flyer, and my 3 month old jersey was now a throwback jersey. My friend is such a dick it still makes me laugh at how evil he was doing that.

  6. 30 years to get a $12 knock off jersey of the guy who’s sheer existence cost us Forsberg and multiple Cups?
