  1. One thing is correct, McCarthy is very good with QBs. I never thought in my lifetime that the Steelers would hire an offensive minded coach. He’s had success in the past but this roster needs help. I know it’s not popular opinion, but I wouldn’t have given Watt his latest contract. I would have traded him for as many draft picks as possible.I wouldn’t have given Hayward more money either. The Steelers defense is very old and it’s the most expensive in the NFL. Mike needs to hire a very good DC.

  2. I love this quote: “The great thing about sports is everybody has their opinion,” Rooney said. “It is what it is. You know, you can’t worry about social media. You’ve got to make the best decision you can make. At the end of the day, if we win games, none of that is going to matter.”

  3. > He knows how to bring along a veteran team, and we do have a veteran team. So, I think it’s a good fit from that standpoint.

just gonna keep on running it back

    > At the end of the day, if we win games, none of that is going to matter

    how many games, art?

  4. “I got a text from another head coach, and he said, ‘It’’s not every day you get to hire a head coach with that record of success,’”

Said as if teams were beating down McCarthys door. He wasn’t hired last cycle. He had two round 1 interviews this year and no round 2 interviews. No one else had interest in this guy. You didn’t need to rush out and hire him before going out and casting a wide net. Just a lazy process

  5. >“It wasn’t like we went into those saying, ‘We’ve got to hire a young defensive coordinator.’ We went into those thinking we’re going to hire the best coach we can find,” Rooney said. “When we hired Mike Tomlin, I kind of went into that search expecting that we were going to hire one of our older holdovers — Whiz [Ken Whisenhunt] and Russ [Grimm]. So, I don’t know that there was as strong a sort of model there as some people want to make it out to be.”

We are so fucking beyond cooked.

  6. With our luck, Art’s gonna live to 195 before even considering stepping down. Look at Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder, old fucks that took way too goddamn long (in Jerry’s case, far FAR too goddamn long)

  7. literally just trying to compete with the tj/heyward group while we can. you guys are so upset but why rebuild with them still playing well past their primes?? if we get a good offense and the dc helps our defense recover from last year we can still be competitive. no need to tear it all down just yet

  8. Art makes it sounds like we’re one or two pieces away from being in the Super Bowl. Buddy, we need like 15 pieces to even be in consideration.

  9. Am I the only one here that thinks Rooney has his head crammed up his own ass?

No fuckin’ wonder Mike dipped. This shit is bananas.

  10. I don’t get the fear of rebuilding. The majority of this cities recent championships have come from guys like Crosby, Lemieux, Jagr, Malkin, MAF, Ben, etc that were acquired through rebuilds/ high picks. Being lucky enough to get a guy like Skenes alone has kept the pirates at least somewhat interesting despite how the bad the franchise has been.

  11. Couldn’t read the article I couldn’t pick the right buses and bicycles so apparently I’m a reboot

  12. This is such a pussyass article. Alludes to criticism but states none of the prevailing themes. Makes it sound like a blip on twitter.

  13. As much as I’ll hate watching it, I hope we get fucked nuked next season, we need young coaches, and players. Not the fucking Unc Off

  14. There is never a paywall for the PG- just open your browser Incognito. Maybe part of the reason they went broke.

  15. If he’d talked up playoff success and needing to perform in big moments then I’d be convinced he sees the problem.

He’s talking about managing an old team so has picked an old coach to do that. Woo irrelevance! We are so back to where we started.

We’re not getting a successful team until he’s no longer running the show any more. I like McCarthy is from Pittsburgh but that’s never a criteria that should matter. It’s a detail that does not pertain to how well he’ll do. Hopefully he provides a better offence and can hire a strong DC and staff to assist but I hold zero hopes for
    any of that currently.
