Manica, who used to work for Populous, designed the Raiders and Titans’ new stadiums; Populous designed the Bills’ stadium that opens this fall + a bunch of other older venues

  1. You aren’t fooling me Clark Hunt. I will never forget. Fuck your dome and your greed. Go Chiefs.

  2. Didn’t Manica break off of Populous? Still crazy KC is the world sports architecture Mecca.

  3. Manica created the early renderings that we saw last year after the Missouri vote failed and have done some great designs for others, so I’m not surprised that them and Populous (who are also KC- based and top-tier) are the last two standing.

I can’t imagine that the final version will look drastically different from this.

  4. Decided to look into what Populous had designed outside of the US, kinda expecting maybe a handful of projects here in Aus. Nope. They’ve got their fingerprints all over *everything* and multiple offices worth of employees.

  5. Populus is the evolution of the group that designed 90% of pro stadiums in the US (and many abroad). They did Arrowhead and the K originally.

  6. Who designed US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis? Because that’s the best-looking enclosed stadium design that I’ve seen in many years — better than SoFi Stadium, and I know how much the NFL LOVVVVES that one.

  7. Why would Hunt be choosing the Architect? The tax payers are paying for most of it and tax payers will own the stadium. Same way Missouri is with Arrowhead and will soon be responsible for the tens of millions it costs to demolish it

  8. It’ll be owned by a public sports authority for tax and legal reasons. Tax payers will be responsible for the stadium while the Hunt’s collect all the profits.

So you’re right other than that technically taxpayers own the stadium

  9. Not really a big fan of the Raiders’ stadium design so I guess I would prefer Populous. I’m kinda bummed HKS (designers of Vikings stadium and new Commanders stadium) isn’t a finalist.

  10. Maybe we’ll build it in the shape of a Teepee? Seems like something the Chiefs would do.

  11. Fan from Dallas. The same thing that happened here is going to happen in KC. Texas Stadium had so much charm to it and felt like a football stadium, just like Arrowhead. The Deathstar (At&t Stadium) feels like an art gallery/convention with football being played in the background.

  12. If it’s going to be a dome and only 65,000 people, it’ll be a downgrade no matter who designs it.
