  1. Given Trey gonna take up half our cap room on his next contract and we have 2 rookie LBs. why ?

  2. Considering we have 2 ~~rookie~~ LB’s on a cheap deal, and the front office doesn’t want to pay more to fix the situation. It’s the bengals, I’m pretty sure those will be the starters for the next season

  3. DKJ and Barrett Carter cannot be the starting LBs for this team next year. DKJ I could deal with. Carter is just awful, though.

  4. Honestly could ask this same question of every position group on defense and the answer is yes🫩

  5. I honestly think FO will be too stubborn to make a change at LB. It’ll take another year of leading the league in missed tackles to make them change the LBs.

  6. Knight showed a lot of promise. There’s a learning curve for every player going from college to the NFL, but he made some flash plays after being thrown into the fire which is all you ask of most rookies.

Carter I’m not so sure about. What really worries me is that Golden gave him the green dot halfway through the season and that could indicate he’s pivotal in calling the defense next year, but I didn’t see anything positive from him on the field.

Golden turned Pratt and Wilson into stalwart leaders of the defense during our playoff runs so I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I think adding a starting competitive linebacker in FA is a no-brainer regardless.

  7. Drop Burks and add a starting LB in FA. Sign starting free safety in FA. Add depth edge and CB. Draft either Downs or Bailey at 10.

If you get Downs, aim for DL in 2nd round. (Battle becomes 2nd string)
If you get Bailey, aim for BPA in 2nd round.

  8. Yes, but I wouldn’t go for Lloyd or Bush. They are gonna command quite a bit of money and have been really inconsistent in their career. I would rather go for someone with a lower ceiling but more consistent that will be substantially cheaper (as long as the money is actually reinvested elsewhere like DE or DT). Someone like Leo Chenal, Demario Davis, or Kaden Elliss. The more I look at this offseason the more I think the best fix is not trying to bring in one or two elite guys but getting 5 or so quality starters and letting teams that feel they are one piece away make runs at guys like Lloyd and Franklin-Meyers.

For example, I feel better about the team if they added KLavon Chaison, Logan Hall, Kaden Elliss, Eric Wilson, and Coby Bryant over just adding John Franklin Meyers and Devin Lloyd for a similar per year cost.
