Rust suspended three games

  1. 3 games is fucking insane given precedence.  It’s literally like the more frequently a player has hearings, the less punishment they receive.  Mario’s “garage league” line just stays accurate, decade after decade.

  2. If they go with the Tom Wilson scale for punishment, he would be suspended 7 minutes and 54 seconds.

  3. 3 games is shocking for a first time offender when you have Wilson and Trouba giving people flying-screaming elbows every night. This league player safety is beyond fucked

  4. Contrarian take: Rust deserves 3 games. Repeat offenders and players who’ve done far more damaging things to other players in hindsight deserved **FAR MORE** games than they received. Wilson, Trouba etc should’ve got 6+ for some of the shit they pulled against the Pens in the playoffs in 2016 and 2022 respectively

  5. Id be totally ok with Rust getting 3 if there was consistency elsewhere. He deserves it, but others deserved far more and got handed less

  6. It sounds from the video that this is a “light” suspension given Rust’s history. Boeser getting injured aggravates it though.

  7. The biggest problem with Rust missing 3 games is this probably means 3 games of Kevin Hayes.

Also I think 3 games is excessive considering Bryan Rust has zero history of cheap shots. I don’t even think he’s ever thrown so much as a hit before.

  8. Having not watched the game live and also being a biased penguins fan I find 3 games to be an egregious overreaction. Truba chicken winged Sid a few years ago in the playoffs and got 1 game I believe. To me the replay looks like Rust picked the point that Boeser was in but then Boeser turned his body and drifted backwards. Rusts body was bladed away from Boeser and couldn’t have known he drifted back. End result: as a pens fan I want a fine at most. If I were a Canucks fan I’d want at least a game.

  9. Big fan of clean hits and that was definitely not it, bad play on Rust’s part… DOPS video sums it up perfectly it’s 100% targeted because it was completely avoidable.

3 games for that is more than fair, the only issue I have like everyone here has is the ridiculous consistency. Every hit like this should result in at least 3 games now, more with history.

Brain injuries are no joke, and with the more research and new data out there we know now more than ever. Get this shit out of the league, earlier on it almost cost the hockey world one of the best ever in Crosby, he was lucky he recovered the way he did and not like Chytl.

  10. He deserves to be suspended but man it’s tough remembering all those dirty Wilson and Trouba hits that got slaps on the wrist with a history of it and Rust with a relatively clean record gets three right off the bat

  11. First, I love these videos. Second I can’t really argue with this suspicion. Rust is a very clean player and will probably go the rest of his career without this happening again.

  12. If Rust knew he’d get 3 games for that he should have taken the guys head off. I’ve seen far far worse get nothing.

  13. As others have said 3 is fine for the hit. The issue stems from the lack of consistency from the league with players who have laid far worse hits and have a history of bad hits.

  14. When can they just switch to the following rules for suspension: to make things easy to expect and consistent:

When injury is caused due to direct contact to the head the person delivering the hit is suspended 1 game per lifetime infraction (ie; first offense equals one game, second offense is 2 games, etc.) after the player injured returns. In addition, the salary of the forfeited games is the fine. (To clarify if the injured player misses 3 games and this is the first infraction, the player delivering the hit would need to sit 4 games)

If an injury doesn’t occur from contact to the head, the player delivering the hit is suspended 1 game per lifetime infraction and the salary of the forfeited games is the fine.

There could be bonus add-ons for hunting someone down on the ice or using a stick but this has got to end.

  15. The problem isn’t rust getting 3 games for that hit. It’s that other players DIDNT get 3 games for it in the past

Hope the league keeps getting guys for these type of hits.

  16. WHY do people keep referencing “elbow”? at worst, it’s a flying, intentional shoulder. in reality, to me, it’s a flying, irresponsible shoulder after the hit from Rakell.

  17. 3 games is utter bullshit. this is a guy without so much as a fine levied against him in his 12 year career, and now his first disciplinary action is in the form of a 3 game suspension, which is 50% longer than anything jacob “head-hunter” trouba has ever received. just an absolute clown show and right on par for the NHL.
