ESPN’s version of Wemby’s Quote, regarding the shooting by ICE in Minneapolis, VS the actual fully Quote

  1. To give Doris her props she did call it out and said that wasn’t the quote and that she was proud of wemby.

  2. So ridiculous. If they weren’t gonna mention his actual condemnation then why bring it up at all?

  3. FUCK ESPN

    FUCK ICE

    FUCK TRUMP

    FUCK DERRICK FISHER

    FUCK KARL MALONE

    FUCK ZAZA

    FUCK UNCLE DENNIS

    AND FUCK TRUMP AGAIN

  4. OP, so fucking lame they removed this post you made on r/nba

Censorship is how you control the narrative

  5. Lord…Wemby is French and he still gives more of a shit about Americans getting murdered by ICE goons than tons of Americans.

  6. ESPN is a joke. Remember: they fired the black female reporter for being political, but have Aaron rogers conspiracy story hour with the guy who never wears sleeves

  7. ESPN sucks, let’s get that out of the way.

However, it’s hard to pass judgment on this without actually watching the segment this was part of. Did they show the other part or discuss the other part of his quote at any point?

I know for a fact that the other (main) part of the quote ran in stories on ESPN and just about every major sports journalism outlet.

  8. While the quote may seem like he’s apathetic, it’s actually a really important point when placed in context of him being part of the alien (pun intended) community.

As a spurs fan who studied in the US just recently, the new State Department policies scrutinizing non-citizens for expressions that they may deem anti-US gov’t is what Wemby’s statement is all about. A citizen saying “Fuck ICE” is freedom of expression. For a non-citizen, it can be grounds for deportation.

I was nobody but even I was concerned that what I share on social media can be weaponized against me by the state. I can imagine how much navigation is required for someone like Wemby, who has an exponentially larger platform compared to mine.

It doesn’t help that he’s worldly (and French) + that the media will inevitably ask him these types of questions. Point is, if you are upset, many legal migrants (basketball stars included) feel the same way but are also feeling much more powerless because this government is actively looking for ways to kick people out.

  9. Can Wemby sue them over misquoting? I don’t know anything about US law but if he can he should.

  10. NBA is scared because their brightest stars, even Edwards didn’t go too deep into it. When a guy who has never been to America until he was 19 years old even had more to say than guys who grew up here and have seen these things first hand.
