I’m in Avs territory so I’ve been strongly anticipating the matchup (despite them being the most dominating team in the league so they’ll prob give us a spanking lol) but I’m curious why our game with them is only a couple weeks before the season ends, for reference last season the 31st team we played was Toronto on the 4th of Feb, I know there’s an Olympics break this season but that’s only a couple weeks and this matchup still seems incredibly late. Our 30th team was the Ducks this past week which is 2 months before we finish reach 31… idk, just strange and I’m wondering if any of the other team’s in the league have a similar schedule. Does anyone know the specifics or variables when creating a schedule? And if there’s a particular reason this is happening?

  1. Scheduling in the NHL is still a process that is done “by hand.” They have to schedule 1312 games in the season, accounting for a wide variety of rules set by the CBA, without creating any significant unfair advantage for any team. If you look at any team’s schedule you will notice a half dozen things that look strange but this is just a consequence of how difficult scheduling is.
