He’s exactly right. Signing a big name free agent this offseason doesn’t fit the team’s timeline. Pete Alonso wouldn’t make the Rockies contenders and by the time they’re ready for that, his contract will be expiring anyways.

Listen, not signing Pete Alonso was probably a good move. That’s a shit load of money and the old Rockies would have considered it. But let’s not pretend he wouldn’t raise our floor when, to my eyes, we don’t really have a first baseman.

This team is doing something different and I’m all for it. Alonso would’ve been so much fun to watch at Coors, but we’re not the Dodgers and the money needed to sign him should be used to do exactly what the new GM is doing. As others have said, getting excited about not spending money on a huge contract speaks to how low the bar is for this organization lol!

Pete would never have signed here. Never. I guess this works as a hypothetical example but this shouldn’t be taken at face value.
