Panarin + Oilers = Stanley Cup? Breaking Down the Deadline Move

Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin are joined by NHL insider David Pagnotta to break down the very real possibility of Artemi Panarin becoming available at the NHL Trade Deadline — and whether the Edmonton Oilers should be in on it.

With sign and trade talks reportedly slowing between Panarin and the New York Rangers, the boys dive into what a potential trade to Edmonton could look like, what kind of return the Rangers would demand, and how the Oilers could make the money work under the salary cap. Is this the type of all-in swing that could put the Oilers over the top?

  1. Food for thought, Panarin and Kaprizov are good friends, they hang out in the summer, I would think Panarin would love to play in Minnesota with his buddy,it only makes sense, Panarin is in charge of his destiny, the rangers have no say at all
I believe Panarin is going to Minnesota as a rental, Denny from Locked on wild

  2. Last thing this team needs is Panarin 57 point -16. right now! Ryan O 51 pts. +5. Bigger meaner and Canadian ! Should have signed Perry rather than Mangi.and never give Fredrick a contract extension with out first seeing how he will fit in and play!!? There’s a bunch of savings right there!? Whoever you get if they don’t fit in and get ice time it isn’t going to matter

  3. I don’t know if this is a hot take. Rico should remain an Oiler. Him and his family love the city and he’s on his last few years of hockey from the sounds of it. We got a win him the cup in Edmonton so he can retire in Edmonton with his family.

  4. No cap space and no assets the Rangers would want in a trade.. other teams have the Oilers beat in terms of cap space and prospects/draft capital. Panarin isn't going to Edmonton.

  5. Trading a package with Howard for a pure rental to get Panarin would be a massive waste. You need an extension for him for that to not be a waste. At his age and cap, no dice. Go for Mcmann and Stanley and anything else that could work to make the oilers better within age, guys that can fit into the core for years to come and get extended in the summer.
