Fans attack ‘ Classless ’ NHL for cutting cancer donation by $800,000 after missed shot

Watching them bring that board out, I think it was *barely* big enough to get a puck through. We thought they were going to have Thunder Bug kick it in.
They should. It was tacky as fuck.
It is insane that they didn’t actually put up the full amount money and donate it. Like jackel said, just have one of the mascots push it in if/when the person missed.
Easy PR and its done. If you were not going to do it, just do not have the shot/situaiton in the first place. Instead they just look like a-holes.
I was thinking in my head while it was happening why can’t you just donate that regardless if the shot is made or not
“Can we use the cancer babies as targets and let a player go all Ray Bourque on them, for charity?” –Bettman, probably
The worst possible look for the NHL. If they’d have done nothing, they’d look less shitty. A PR disaster of their own making.
Why put classless in quotation marks? It was pretty damn classless of them to decide on a charity donation through a game when they’re a multibillion dollar organization
Hockey Fights Cancer…donations…
Guys, they probably just assumed this game was blacked out for everyone and no one outside the stadium would know.
##THE DONATION IS NOT AVAILABLE IN YOUR REGION DUE TO LOCAL BROADCAST RIGHTS
The right way to handle this is to gift it anyway, *after* he misses the shot. Having that “bonus” prior to the shot heightens the anticipation and drama, but in the end, if they had the money set aside for the donation, they should make it anyway.
Ffs, the players, owners, networks, etc make enough money off the game. Give some of that to those who really need it.
“Sorry Timmy, if only he’d been better at half ice hockey shots, we may have had enough money to save you”
If they would have started with 100K and had a chance to double it to 200k. Missed and gave it to him anyways?
Self inflicted wound. How do you give away 200k and still make yourself look bad.
Best sport, worst league.
Classic garage league
The NHL keeps tripping over their feet. I guess the NHL likes cancer?
I’m surprised they haven’t been bullied / guilted into just giving the full money over – what a ridiculous situation, all around.
It felt a little cringe. There’s something akin to this in college football where students can line up for a field goal for tuition reimbursement. I’m sitting on my couch thinking, “Does anyone else see the problem with this? How education is bankrupting families versus helping?”
“Because of our actions, now more kids will get to meet their NHL heroes via the Make a Wish Foundation! Everyone wins!”
-NHL…probably.
I mean, technically it was that they would have added $900,000 to the donation if he made the shot, then they just gave an extra $100,000 instead. But yeah, they did make themselves look bad by putting 1 million out there as a possibility and then not giving it.
This idea is sooooo stupid. I can’t believe nobody at the NHL realized how bad this would look. It’s actually the plot of a Bojack Horseman episode. You should know that your idea isn’t great when you are imitating a surrealist animated dark comedy.
