The Colts came within a minute of beating the Seahawks with Rivers. The lesson between that game and the Super Bowl is you need to get passes off quickly.
In the playoffs, unless its say maybe a 4th and inches, ALWAYS take the points…Bill Belichick comes to mind in that area as he made a history out of that…Might explain why he wears so many rings…The man did not let points get away….As a Colts fan i hated the guy, but facts is facts….And rings are rings….He was doin something right…
That is an important point about Seattle's habit of "taking the points". I fundamentally disagree with the inclination of your colleague on the program (Zach) to push it on 4th down in almost all questionable cases. My observation of all games with all teams has compelled me to conclude that unless you are in an almost "tush push" situation, you take the points WHEN YOU ARE PLAYING AGAINT A TOP DEFENSIVE UNIT. I have seen far too many whiffs under those circumstances across the league. Ignore the unthinking emotions of the fans, and never blindly rely on analytics. You can't leave any points on the table against a tough opponent.
Let's see here……what is the lesson we learned from the superbowl…..huuuuummm…….OH YEAH! SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS HAVE A FREAKIN PASS RUSH! Do the Colts have a pass rush? No. Have the Colts had a consistent pass rush under Ballard, like…….ever? No. Is Ballard good at acquiring pass rush talent? No. So, what did we learn? Ballard sucks. That's what we learned. (although, we sorta already knew that based on the last 9 years worth of data.)
