Is the St. Louis Cardinals’ RH Hitter Search Over After Bryan Ramos? What About Nick Castellanos?

St. Louis Cardinals fans wonder: is Bryan Ramos the right-handed power bat the team needs, or just another developmental gamble? JD Hafron breaks down the Cardinals’ latest acquisition, Ramos, analyzing his prospects and what this move signals about the club’s youth-focused rebuild. The conversation heats up with trade rumors involving Nick Castellanos—could the veteran slugger be a low-cost fit, or would his declining defense and big personality clash with the Cards’ direction? Ramos’ upside, Castellanos’ walk-year intrigue, and Randal Grichuk’s potential return all take center stage.

Switching gears, JD Hafron spotlights former Cardinals on the move—Marcell Ozuna heads to the Pirates and Eric Fedde returns to the White Sox—reflecting on trades that backfired for St. Louis. MLB buzz continues with the Milwaukee Brewers landing pitching prospect Kyle Harrison in a major swap with the Boston Red Sox. As other NL Central teams strengthen rosters, have the Cardinals fallen out of the division race?

  1. Ozuna was hurt when we got him but he actually wasn't bad and look how good he was after he left so I think he gets a bad rap. Of course giving up two Cy Young contenders was stupid. The Fedde trade was horrible. Grichuk would be the move to make.

  2. I can't believe we're even talking about this at this point. I'd rather promote somebody from AA in this current situation. I'd rather play Segasi.

  3. Not sure why we would be disappointed. They are trying to develop young hitters. Ramos is a strong young hitter. Bloom obviously thinks he as potential. And not sure, other than leadership, they would sign an older hitter. I don’t think they need to add a leader. The guys they have will step up.

  4. Listening to your description of Ramos, it sounds like you were talking about Walker! Do we really need another power guy who can't hit and swings at stuff out of the strike zone?

  5. It better not be. Even getting him cheap on waiver price his stats are nothing to base hope on. A 198 minor league BA with a ton of K’s for every hit.

If DeWitt wants to handle this rebuild on the cheap, it’s going to be longer than the 2-3 years they are telling the fans to expect before the team is playing above 500 ball consistently.

We were ranked the worst rotation in MLB before we traded Gray.

We were ranked 27th in offense before we traded away Contreras and Donovan.

Unless these rookies really come on quick and strong we will probably be looking at 3-4 years of last place finishes. What will that do to a gate that cratered last year? Who wants to pay through the nose for tickets, parking and concessions to watch a MLB team playing AA quality ball?

  6. The two trays that really hurt Tommy Edmond and the next one's going to be Brenda Donovan that one hurts because both of them played very hard for St Louis Wichita play hard for whoever they are with but that's not the point I'm trying to make. You don't get rid of people like that the role player that's very special we had two of them now we have zero at the moment Brenda Donovan always came up with a hit when you needed it show the Tommy Edmond I was pissed off when I saw Edmond got traded for nothing

  7. To me, Ramos is a m'eh move. Should be interesting to see if Baltimore grabs him back once the Cards DFA him. As far as Castellanos goes, the only thing that I really like about putting him in a Cardinals uniform is the fact that it would drive fans in Cincy NUTS! Other than that just steer clear.
