I’m so fucking sick of this nitpicked stat. This stat being put everywhere for years is probably the reason he left.
Everything is harder in those games. I don’t give a fuck that his ridiculous pace through the reg seasons and early playoffs games is better than in the last few games of a series. I don’t give a fuck that he made a couple bad turnovers that got torn apart by the media and many fans.
I care that he played his heart out on the Leafs, had many incredible seasons, led us to many great playoff seeds and helped us win big playoff series.
I hate all of the people that treated him like shit every time he made a mistake, and every time he wasn’t clutch in big games. He wasn’t doing this on purpose. He tried harder in the later series games where he had bad games, he wasn’t lazy, he wasn’t undisciplined, he just has had zero luck and maybe didn’t play quite as good in these games. His teammates also haven’t though, and Hockey is a team game. He’s been capable of, and has been trying to do all the things he does for Canada when he was with the Leafs. Things just never clicked.
I was defending him this whole time, and nobody fucking listened. Now we fucking suck, and Marner is doing the same shit for Canada he’s always done, and it seems like some people get it, but most of y’all just want to hate him and blame him, like he didn’t want to bring Lord Stanley back to Toronto. Fuck off.

Said it from the start, got rid of the wrong guy. Leafs crumble when the stress is on? Marner should have proved in his 4 nations OT winner that wasn’t him. Never mind setting up the golden goal
I can think of a lot more big moments where he was invisible.
He was on a milk carton that whole game lol until 3on3
Marner and Kessel do well when they are not the No.1 or even No.2 on their teams.Kessel was the 3rd guy behind Crosby and Malkin and that’s the main reason he did well there.Same with Marner on Team Canada.Objectively,Marner is 5th on the Team Canada forward group behind McDavid,Nate,Crosby and Celebrini.
If Team Canada lost then McDavid and Crosby are the ones that will have 50 microphones in front of them asking them what happened,not Marner!
Can’t we just enjoy things? Marner left, he ultimately failed to do what he needed to do as a Leaf. Him tearing it up for team Canada does not change what he did as a Leaf. Can we not just enjoy watching him play for our country? Are we that salty?
Not hating but just saying playoff marner will show up for Vegas and we will see him skating away from puck battles in the corner. Kids got magic for sure but he has no grit.

We get to cheer on Connor, McKinnon, Celebrini, Makar, Sid, etc all playing for national pride on the same team. I cheer for Marner, Marchand, and Suzuki too. When they all go back to their teams I won’t hate them (probably).
NHL team hockey is just seeing which group of employees perform the best. It can be fun but it’s nowhere near as meaningful as the Olympics. That’s why we see Matthews, McDavid, and MacKinnon being more aggressive, while someone like Tom Wilson is learning to hold back. I can’t understand how some Leafs fans and haters immediately point out the Leafs drama/bitterness fresh off a Team Canada win.
