“WE HAVE TO HIT ON THIS PICK.”

Former Raiders GM Tom Telesco told Peter Schrager that leading up to the 2024 draft he wrote down the last ten Raiders first round picks and “there were more misses than hits.”

“When we looked at Brock (Bowers), it was just a high odds player between the ability, the makeup and it just fit right for us.”

  1. Falling ass backwards into a pick is not a testament to Telescos skill

Not fucking up =/= being a good GM

  2. I still believe had Atlanta not picked up Penix we would have definitely reached for him as well with our pick I’m glad we dodged that bullet.

  3. You mean to tell me that he found a honest to God generational talent that Nick Saben said was the biggest problem he’s ever schemed against just sitting there…and he had the balls to take him?

    A true maverick. Wow.

  4. My take from that is they absolutely would have taken a qb if one of them hadbeen available, but was not willing to spend to move up to get one because there was such a lack of talent. Picking Bowers was an easy pick especially looking back. Deciding not to spend a fortune in draft capital for a qb was not such an easy decision when we desperately needed a qb.

I don’t know what it would have taken to move up, but if it was that years 1st round and the following years first round pick we would have lost out on Bowers and Jeanty.
