Man I get we aren’t true true contenders but at least put on a bold face for the rest of the team, sheesh..

  1. Well… it’s been over even before the trade. Some of yall just didn’t want to see it lol now kawhi actually saying it is oh so satisfying

  2. It’s Ironic that during the 2019 free agency i wanted to sign kawhi so we could win now and develope shai along side kawhi but Whi wanted for us to trade for a second star and we did. Today Shai is a Superstar and Kawhi is playing at his prime while younger players are developing around him.

  3. I’d much rather have this than Paul George claiming he’s going “bully mode” or Chris Paul giving an NBPA media trained answer. Kawhi knows the way

  4. I like Kawhi keeping it a buck because I’m realist myself. I can’t believe a team is a contender until I see evidence. Believing in a team without evidence is called being delusional.

  5. Over time doesn’t mean over seasons. He’s saying there is a 4th of the season left to continue to grow.

  6. I don’t mind him saying this, but man it’s so disappointing how the whole Kawhi era worked out

  7. honestly i dont hate the answer. focusing on the development and being so understanding of the need to do so as our team’s leader is a good thing

  8. We have had the best record in the last 28 games of the season. When and of we get Garland back we could be really nasty!

  9. He said nothing wrong. Keep busting your ass and let’s see where the standings are at the end of the

  10. Why do y’all want him to lie? If you watch the full interview he talks about just getting better.

  11. Brook Lopez had a great game yday but we’re not making it through the playoffs starting Brook Lopez for 4 rounds

  12. From top down it’s already a focus on 2027. People don’t like hearing the truth. I hate the saying but, trust the process and enjoy the development.

Continuity is the key focus for the remainder of the season. Especially when DG can join. Get him acclimated with the plays and the team with his play style. We gonna be solid next season. We’re already showing that.

If Kawhi can show he can do back to backs and play like he’s a number one in the league and come out with no injuries, I’m excited af

  13. These are professionals, I think they understand the situation if you’re a true contender or not.

  14. It would be worse to think we are…Kawhi would have put more pressure on the F.O. to make short term moves at the deadline

  15. It takes pressure off the rest of the team now that they can just focus one game at a time, it’s a good thing since they still need to acclimate their new players plus they need YKN to become a true starting center if they are to become a true contender (idk how we can deal with Spurs otherwise)

  16. At least Kawhi is being realistic. LeBron says the same thing on the Lakers and he’s actually right. This season is about growth and development. You can’t expect us to be true contenders coming from the 7th/8th slots.

We were a bit fortunate winning last night. Winning 4 games against Denver in a series would still be a daunting task. But I can’t wait how much Mathurin improves next season. Breakout star!

The good news for us is that rebuilding doesn’t take very long. We have teams being a lottery team in 2023 and becoming a champion or conference champion only 2 years later (OKC, Indy). San Antonio was a lottery team a year ago. Detroit lost 28 games straight 2 years ago.

I feel we found our proper replacement for Kawhi. He’s still not as polished as Kawhi or even James was. He’s only 23. But man, I can imagine multiple 50-point games from The Math Man!

  17. For the past 6 years the FO traded all our picks to win a championship now. We started 6 – 21 and we had to blow it up. When you start your the first quarter of the season like that, it’s hard to be a serious championship contender. This wasn’t going to be the first team in history to win a championship from a play-in spot. It’s a hard road when you’re in the West. Gotta respect to have a leader like this who says the real truth. The goal should be to keep getting better.

  18. You can’t be a fuckin’ contender with a record under .500. So, in those terms, he’s right. Look at their roster, without Garland, there isn’t anybody else on the team that’s a star, or a cornerstone piece. Math needs to unlock another part of his game on defense to get there. There are so many questions on this roster unlike in year’s past.

But what do you see when they play? These mfs compete hard, especially on defense. Defense gotta be their calling card. Math becoming one of their POA defenders could change the outlook of this team. If they could get two POA defenders on the floor at all times, even with DG coming back… I’m intrigued. In the meantime, they just gotta build on that end and hopefully muck up the game enough to continue stacking W’s.

Three games left against a playoff teams. This is a good test to see if they can keep it up on defense.

  19. I take it as him not putting pressure on the young and new guys. If he starts talking about contending and winning it all, that could put too much pressure on guys that still need to develop and gel with the team. Too many guys are thrown into new roles.

  20. I think he means the development part is over and now they just see what they are as a team. Him pointing out that there’s only 1/4 of the season is the part that makes me believe that. Kawhi isn’t the best speaker either and a lot of what he says is misinterpreted

  21. Honestly this team seems to be better when we are written off so I do not mind them leaning into that narrative. Let the league sleep, if we make any kind of playoff run so be it. If we get in and put up a good fight against a more established contender or two, it’s only good for us. Because of the moves this season we are basically playing with house money.
