On his most recent podcast Simmons laid out how Dybantsa would fit in with the current Pacers lineup and labeled him a “truly terrifying Indiana Pacer”. You guys agree? Is this who we want?

  1. We want bpa. If Rick, KP, Chad and Tyrese sit down with Peterson and find his mental balanced and engaged enough it’ll be him if we get #1. The weirdest question for us is if we get #2.

  2. Yes. That’s who I truly want. I think Dybantsa is who Adam Silver wants the Pacers to end up with the least.

  3. Anyone of the Top 4 guys will make our team better. The only way we lose out is if we don’t get a top 4 pick.

  4. I think he’s the best combo of upside without risk. Boozer is ultimate safety guy and that doesn’t take anything away from Boozer. I love him. Peterson def highest upside but he could be Ben Simmons 2.0. Don’t hate Wilson either

  5. The top 4 are all so talented at this point I just want whoever is going to have the best attitude about the role Rick has for them. We’re going to contend, draft pick or not and I don’t want a guy who’s going to come in on the first day of training camp thinking we’re building a system around him from the jump like this is Sacramento. Are you ok with being the sixth man for the first few months at least and not ruin the vibes of a team that gets along great and eventually become the franchise player as Siakam and Haliburton age? Yes? Here’s your jersey!

  6. Simmons was the only national guy giving any kind of respect to the pacers the season they made their ECF run and lost to Boston. When he’s not being a total homer he has some pretty good insights

  7. I want Dybansta the most do that top 4 but I’m not going to be mad at any besides hoping Peterson isn’t a Ben Simmons and actually loves basketball

  8. I’ve been hoping for Dybantsa for months now, but that Bill Simmons agrees makes me sure I’m wrong.

  9. Dybantsa is probably the most seamless fit minutes-wise (how much to play Ty/Peterson/Nemby/TJ, how much to play Siakam/Boozer/Obi, whereas AJ probably immediately either starts or plays big minutes behind Nesmith and we get much less Jarace at sf)

Peterson worries me. It’s probably a bit overblown but he did sub himself out of a game.

Boozer probably has the highest floor as a player, maybe lowest ceiling.

If we get any of them I’ll be hyped

  10. All 4 of the consensus top 4 players would be incredible additions.

That said, I think SF is our weakest position. I absolutely love Nesmith and rate his motor and effort as a big component of the Pacers’ success, but his playing style results in a lot of wear and tear, and he occasionally fouls a little too much, despite taking on impossible defensive assignments. He could use some help and could even be unseated as the starting SF.

I also remain skeptical of Jarace in a prominent role, Furphy has shown that he can’t really score, Shep is undersized…a big wing who can score would be a dream come true. So I think Dybantsa makes a lot of sense.

I know people worry about Peterson but I do not, other than worrying that if we pick him, Nembhard might not be on the team in 2-3 years, which would absolutely break my heart. When Peterson is right, his abilities pop. The guy could be better than Tyrese by year 2, and I say that knowing how impossible and ridiculous it sounds.

I’m generally skeptical of Boozer becoming an All NBA type player long term, but in the short term, I think he’d shine in our system, being asked to be a part of a greater whole, rather than being asked to be the man that everything revolves around. I definitely think he’s ready *today* to immediately contribute to a championship run, so I’d be pretty excited to draft him too.

After the big 3, Wilson seems to me to be the most obvious fit and I think he has a high ceiling so I’d still be excited to draft him, but I think he might take another year or two than the others to develop.

  11. I for one do believe the lottery is rigged, at least to some extent. Adam Silver will make damn sure the Pacers don’t land a top 4 pick.

  12. In 2027-2028, a lineup of fully recovered Hali, Nemby, AJ (assuming he gets to starter level), Spicy P, & Big Zu would be diabolical.

Plus with guys like Nesmith, TJ, Jarace, & Obi off the bench, i dont know who beats us in a series.

  13. He also specifically mentioned a theory that Peterson might not want to go to a team like the Pacers because he wants his team to be built around him. I thought that was very notable.

  14. 1. I don’t necessarily disagree with Simmons, but really think this is more about the team meeting with all the players that could be available at their pick. As this team has shown, it is more about fit than raw talent. They didn’t make it to the Finals by having the best players on the court in every series. They did by having the best guys for their system. Attitude for this team and market matters, period. Of course that doesn’t mean get some rando, but I’m sure one of the top guys is a better fit in that regard.

    2. Challenge of coming to any thread about the draft and not seeing 80% of the posts be conspiracies about the draft being rigged: impossible!

  15. I think I can see the use case for all of the top-4 guys being a solid part of this team… but it’s hard for me to overlook just how smooth and productive Boozer looks.

I know he’s not the flashiest, but his BBIQ and feel for the game seems like such a great fit for how the Pacers want to pave.

  16. Yes, please. My thing is, if we don’t keep the pick, we are going to need to add to the bench for next year. Shipping off Ben & IJax plus the Furph injury leaves the bench lacking.

A lot will be on the shoulders of a 36 year old
    Huff
    Obi
    Jarace
    TJ
    Shep

  17. Yes, that is who I’ve wanted for Indiana most of this season. I briefly conceded that Peterson was currently the superior player after the BYU vs Kansas game, but since then with all the missed games and injury mysteries I’m back to prioritizing Dybantsa.
