So gross
Good for him!
Proud of our boy.
US men’s hockey team so out of touch that winning gold medal still falls behind heated rivalry in cultural significance.
Can someone actually ask him, in person, how he squares his faith with the decisions made by the White House he felt so obligated to visit.
Isn’t this a Canes fan page? Why do we have to justify celebrating our players? If you don’t like it, leave.
Go Slavin, Go Canes, Go USA
jaccob slaving the second c stands for cool with child rapists using his professional accomplishments to further their political agenda
He looked like a kid in a candy shop enjoying the Oval Office and laughing at the president’s jokes like he was an old pal. Ear to ear smiles with one of the most deplorable. It’s 2026 where apparently expecting supposedly virtuous people to stand up to evil incarnate is too much to ask for, let alone too much for most people to even understand the gravity of it all. It is what it is. The Overton window has shifted so much to accommodate the worst behavior imaginable that so many people are just okay with it all being in the mainstream and would rather hand wave it away and ignore it, regardless of the repercussions. Everyone is so apathetic and acclimated to this stuff it’s baffling how normalized these things have become. We don’t expect much of anyone anymore I guess. But It shouldn’t be that way. Yet, here we are. He has soiled his image in my eyes and nothings gonna change that, he had an opportunity to be more than just a hockey player to me but again, it is what it is. Just a major bummer it was Slavin of all people. I’ll always be a Canes fan until I die, but there’s gonna come a time where “real” life will intrude on all of our lives, including our “sport” we like to watch to distract ourselves and get away from it all.
I’m just saying I bet his trade value is pretty good right now.
Guys he’s a hockey player. Why are you so caught up in this.
Walking down the row of portraits of 47 presidents, when the current one replaced the previous one’s photo with an autopen and the sobriquet “sleepy” and “by far, the worst President in American History”, and another as “a community organizer, one term Senator from Illinois, and one of the most divisive political figures in American History” — that last also notably caricatured in incredibly racist fashion recently by this same current president, without apology.
Jaccob, my man, I honestly believed you were one of the “good ones” — the Christians who actually walk the walk. Normalizing this administration is not a good look, at all.
Was he at the SOTU too?
The holier than thou about this subreddit is crazy right now. It’s like I’m taking crazy pills. Ya’ll are condemning this man like he’s a villain. Slavin has done more for this community and for disparaged people than any of you all criticizing him combined. The man spends his free time, the money he’s earned and has foundations/charities that he’s built for bettering people. Be ashamed you people, if you’re better than him, prove it.

If anyone is looking to unload his jersey, I’d be happy to take it off your hands! Size L, but can fit in a M!
Proud of Slavin and this great accomplishment for the USA!
Genuinely miss the world where not everything revolved around politics, proud of our man and look forward to seeing him don the canes jersey again.
Jaccob Slavin politically endorses an alleged child rapist who also has a long and recent history of being obscenely racist, particularly against black people.
This is a fact.
How can he look his daughter in the eye after this?
It’s a lose-lose situation for him. If he doesn’t visit, he’s likely villainized by his government – one that is MUCH more powerful than his fans – but if he does, we villainize him.
Taking a strong political stance as an athlete can end your career. If you don’t believe me, ask Colin Kaepernick. Going to the White House, despite what you all may think, is not nearly as strong of a stance as not going. It’s expected, and he did what was expected of him.
But nuance is lost on the Internet these days, so I expect downvotes and contrarians.
I recognize that Slavin is one of the best hockey players in the world, and I’m sure he’s a nice guy, in the sense that he treats people politely and is generally pleasant to hang out with. But his bible thumper persona is annoying, and pairing it with the total hypocrisy of supporting white supremacists and rubbing elbows with child predators just exposes the fake virtue of the whole thing.
I never understood why certain people would act like he was so brave for being outwardly Christian, as if that is some persecuted minority group. At this point I don’t even know if I want the Canes to win the cup during this administration because seeing all of them rub elbows with Trump and shake his disgusting hand with those big stupid grins on their faces would probably sour me on the whole thing.
All y’all crying in here better not be rooting for him come playoff time.
Funny this sub had such a hard on for Tony D for so long.
This thread shows that none of you have ever met Slavin or you would not be surprised by this at all. He’s an amazing defense men in hockey he’s not Albert Einstein.
He is a simpleton.
As for people not understanding why it’s a bad look for him to go to the White House with this current administration you clearly don’t know what his charity “Fight for Freedom” is about.
Yes, Slavin is a good human being and has good intentions. I guarantee he would give the shirt off his back to someone in need. Does he think everything through? No. Does he walk around oblivious to a lot of things going on? Yes.
Yall really need to understand that in the real world, nobody cares about his White House visit. Reddit is not the real world. Go outside
Might as well rename this subreddit to r/hockeypolitics at this point if the mods are gonna keep leaving political posts up
I’m glad I bought Jarvis’ jersey instead.
Nobody likes to address the elephant do they
TDS galore in here
Do yall honestly think the canes will decline if they win the cup? No
As a lifelong Canadian caniac this subreddit has given me a little bit of hope about America and the state of hockey.
Glad to see that people are opening condemning these actions and I’m sure if it was any other Republican in office, then it would be met with less criticism.
The whole team’s demeanor was very classless but is unfortunately not surprising.
I can’t wait for him to speak about having to overcome the criticism. Christian nationalists are always the victims.
I get why people are upset but it’s important to remember to separate the player from the politics. I think it’s reasonable to accept an invite by the head of state to the White House. It’s not something you get to do very often, if ever. I also get that there are people that will bring his adopted daughter into the picture but politics is more than just left or right.
It shouldn’t matter what Slavin thinks personally, and if he was a racist POS I don’t think he would have adopted his daughter, which he clearly loves very much. It’s also worth noting that Reddit is notoriously Left wing for the most part so take everything with a grain of salt.
We should be happy for him, he brought home the gold. Essentially hating someone off their politics is just petty, especially when they don’t make it a point to shove it in your face. I’m not saying you should agree with what he did, but saying things like “I don’t see how he can look his daughter in the eye after this” is just ridiculous
Quite a barrage of softballs. At least ask him about laughing at the presidents joke about the women. He could shed some light on the mood or hell, be a man and admit it was regrettable
