This is at least the third post off of the most recent Giants Nation Show episode with Jordan Raanan and Bobby Skinner…

I think it's fascinating how many "we need to go after a WR" posts there have been – even though John Harbaugh has spent 18 years in Baltimore prioritizing the run, using two tight ends and even a fullback. But today pretty much put the nail in the coffin of any idea that the Giants are drafting a WR 5th overall.

The Giants are seriously considering taking Love at #5.

And, like they said on the Giants Nation Show, I don't think it's so much that they will take him (Caleb Downs remains a main target there), **but it shows you what they are prioritizing**. The Giants are also in on Kenneth Walker. This can also be taken as a sign of how much they (don't) appreciate Tyrone Tracy.

So, yeah, I don't think the Giants are going to prioritize WR this year. Maybe they snatch a middling free agent or draft a WR in the 4th round or later.

  1. I feel like its smoke. Nothing came out about any coaching hires (other than Monken obviously), and suddenly its clear who we want in the draft? Harbs said he wants a potential gold jacket player and those options are on defense it looks like. But who knows I guess.

  2. Lotta teams are. The zag that’s taken over in the nfl is running the ball. 

    That’s why our biggest issue to me is our run defense and how we were situated to stop the run.

    I view our entire front 7 outside of Carter probably to be potentially replaceable. They were horrific this past season in this regard (bowens scheme did no favors) 

  3. Surprised there hasn’t been any talk on the OL yet. The OL has recently been transformed to have more emphasis on pass blocking, so Giants are lacking solid run blockers outside of goat Andrew Thomas.

    Through the draft, Mauigoa has projected to be a strong run blocker and could be right there at 5.

  5. Copying my post from another thread…because we have multiple other threads about this. We didn’t need another post about another opinion about Love and the run game.

    I don’t doubt we grab another starting-level RB to compliment Skat. Tracy is great as a change of pace, but the run scheme has to change for him if Skat goes down. He doesn’t have the same level of physicality.

    That being said, it isn’t going to be Love at 5. People have to stop that shit. That’s a smokescreen and a half.

    We have way too many other crucial needs in positions that have premiere players at the top of the draft. We’re trading back for capital (at which point maybe we grab Love later in the first), or we’re grabbing S, LB, or WR (probably not until rounds 2 or 3).

  10. With Greg Roman on staff, we will have the greatest running game in the league.

    Just don’t let him get involved in anything that puts the ball in the air.

  11. They ran the ball more than Baltimore last year. They were one of the top running teams in the league.

  13. I think they wants Downs or Styles and are smoke screening with Love. The only way they are considering Love is if Cam is done w football.

  14. I think too many on this sub are downplaying how realistic them taking Love at 5 is. He’s arguably the best player in the draft, and it’s very possible Harbaugh isn’t high on Tracy or Skattebo, or sees them as complementary backs.

  15. If they pick Love at #5, that will be Harbaugh, Nagy and Roman’s pick – then history will show that Gettleman wasn’t so off track in picking Barkley #2 but ..
    Joe Schoen knows the scouting reports, knows how to work the draft and knows when to pick RBs. The last 2 years, the Giants two top running backs were picked on day 3. That might be also the case in this year’s draft. It’s Joe Schoen’s MO and I don’t think it will change this year unless it’s not his pick to choose.
