I like Pierce a lot. I think he’d thrive with Maye and can still improve. He’ll be an overpay at the top of a shitty class, but we can eat it. That doesn’t worry me.
But if we get him, we will still really badly need a possession receiver. We didn’t really have a problem with explosive plays last year. We need a safety blanket guy who can be a target monster we can feed when the offense stagnates. That isn’t who Pierce has ever been. He was the 3rd WR and 4th player in both targets and receptions last year on the Colts. He only had 5 or more receptions 3 times last year.
Volume isn’t his game and that makes him, at absolute best, an extremely unusual WR1. He can be part of an answer to unlock this offense in a big way, but I don’t believe he alone makes us much better than we were with Diggs.
We will be stuck between a rock and a hard place if we somehow don’t land him.
I think Pierce would really thrive in our system the bigger question is paying 25M + for a WR with no more than 47 catches with a concussion history a start play? Yes, I’d love AJ but it is going to be a 1st now and given his contract I am on the fence. Not honestly in love with Boutte, Pop, Williams, Chism and Mack and something needs to be done. Wonder if you could swap a 3 and Boutte for AJ Brown and then bite the bullet and sign Pierce for 4/100.
