Adam Schefter: “ESPN sources: the Raiders are releasing last season’s starting quarterback Geno Smith, barring a trade before the start of the new league year. By releasing Smith, the Raiders will open up $8M in salary cap space while taking on $18.5M in dead money.”

Hughes:”The Jets might not target just one quarterback in free agency. Belief from agents who met with them at the NFL Combine is that they prefer to add two — if they can. It’s similar to what the #Giants did a year ago (Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston).
Kyler Murray was discussed, but he is expected to sign with the Vikings, per sources. No Kirk Cousins, but watch Geno Smith & Carson Wentz. There is interest there. Jacoby Brissett, too, if Cardinals can be convinced to part. Was told that’s “doubtful,” with Jimmy Garoppolo expected to stay in LA. JG signing with the Cardinals would change that.
Wentz might surprise some, because of the notion Frank Reich/Wentz relationship fell apart in Indianapolis. From my understanding, that was more GM/owner, not coach. The two remain very close.
One source told me that the QB Reich prefers is Wentz. A quote from another: “No one loves Wentz more than Frank.”

  2. Geno behind our oline with GW, 1st round receiver, breece and our returning guys a bit more developed sounds like a maybe average offense lol. Not complaining.

  6. I’d be down for a Geno, Wentz/Jacaboy, and rookie for our QB room. I think Geno would be a great fit to get this team to around 7 wins which ya is another losing season but it’s progress into another huge offseason with a ton of draft capital next year.

  10. Of all the names you are throwing out there, these 2 are least attractive. Upside would be we will get another year with high picks. I am okay with that. Maybe run it back with Fields then.

  11. I would discount last season for Geno Smith. The Raiders were even worse than the Jets. Playing hero ball, isn't that what he did when he was a Jet? Carr should stay retired.

  17. Ian sorry but the Wentz not being a good clubhouse guy is out there. The reports are he points fingers at other players for his mistakes, argued with coaches in front of other players, she was way into himself rather than motivating other players. There also were reports he is very religious and players weren't happy he preached to them or tried to prosletize them all the time.

  18. Hearing wentzs name mentioned for the jets is probably the worst scenario ever imaginable besides Murray or Carr
    Geno is mediocre throws too many picks there is no perfection solution for a bridge QB everyone has an opinion on one
    For me i hope the jets go the route of a brissett mariota combo to help develop who ever they draft its not splashy but its stable

  23. Geno + Wentz + Rookie feels acceptable. If Reich wants Wentz that's who he wants and we need to accept that. Bring in a QB between rounds 2-5 and we roll the dice (again)…

  34. Wentz reminds me of Goff. Goff was supposedly washed up and a throw in on that trade. He has done really well with the Lions. Wentz did have a good year under Reich (11 and 2 record, 3,296 passing yds and 33 TDs with only 7 interceptions) so it's not completely absurd to think that he could save his career like Goff did.

  42. My fear about Geno is that too many Jets fans are going to too harsh on Geno. At this point the Jets need a QB to function for 1 season. I would have no problem with Geno. I also think Geno could be a good mentor for a young QB. I want no part of Carson.

  45. While this could all be a smokescreen, Carson Wentz and Geno Smith really inspire me to find something else to do on Jets Sundays.

  47. Geno was the biggest disappointment on that team he was trash from the start coaching had nothing to do with it. If he comes to the Jets he's getting another coach fired.
