  1. Another stat that would have been useful to include here, the Braves overall contact% is up one point from last year, and ranks 5th highest in baseball.

  2. I don't think contact vs. patience is the right way of framing it. It's more about competitive ABs vs. non-competitive ABs. In 2024 and '25, we saw way too many non-competitive ABs. Like Jake said, swing at first pitch, then strike out in 3 or 4 pitches. Now, every hitter is seeing several pitches per AB. I also think, as the season goes on, the Braves will draw more walks.

The lesson for the Braves to remember is that you can't get a hit or even a home run without making contact. This obsession with scorching the ball sort of missed the point, which was to put bat to ball. I think that's what the Braves forgot how to do from 2024-'25. You also need a variable approach, a way to score runs many different ways, even if most of the damage you do would and should come from slugging.

  3. Besides all the injuries last year, I feel like Hyers’ approach was so different from the swing out of your shoes approach with Seitzer that 2025 was just a wonky hitting year. I’m with you Jake, I think the Braves are having way more balanced at bats and I think the power will naturally re-incorporate itself.
