  1. I like the name Commanders now but I wish they would have used the name "Red Hawks" so they could have kept the script "R" and the feather

  2. Time for going back to a time when people were not looking for reasons to be "offended". It was meant for a symbol of pride. It will ALWAYS be the REDSKINS.

  3. As a Bears fan who thought the Washington franchise use to have some sick looking uniforms, I think it's cool that they're going back to a similar uniform look. Much better than the ones they've used in recent years.

  4. The spear is a nice touch as a throwback to a bygone era. But it’s been rumored that the Washington Football Team was considering changing their name again to the “Washington Ticket Scalpers.” But the league office supposedly nixed the idea. After all if anyone is going to make money off the NFL it is the NFL. Period.

  5. Stop being afraid to say the old name. Its The Redskins. There is NOTHING racist about that name. It w is the term THAT particular tribe uses to describe a Warrior Brave. It is a badge of honor to the Blackfoot Tribe. Period. Y'all are racist for trying to remove the name. Get ur facts straight. Period.

  6. Washington Redskins was never a slur Mike is incorrect* he is correct that left wing politics did get the name removed plus a very bad owner didn’t help*

  7. My old high school team is in a native community. They have the same colors, but the team name is “Braves” and artwork done by a local artist. It’s pretty sick lol

  8. It's my understanding that the new team name was in honor of George Washington who was the commander of Continental Army during the Revolutionary War before he became the first U.S. president, for our nation's capital that is also his namesake. So, I don't see how adding the picture of a spear that is associated with the Native Americans is also associated with George Washington who isn't recorded as having ever used a spear to fight the British Army during the war. According to Wikipedia, he fought the French with Indians during the French and Indian War, but he also fought against Indians, later, so to say the addition of spear is in honor of his contradictory relationship with the Indians is rather weak. Yes, to me, it's a lame attempt to bring some semblance to the old team name while trying to keep the new name that are incompatible in either historical or logical context.

  9. It's symbolic bs. If this country cared even a little bit about respecting native Americans, they would give them land back, tax breaks or something tangible that would improve their lives while acknowledging what was done to them. But since America does not care about indigenous people they do things like change the name Redskins so people can feel like they have righted the wrongs, and have the moral high ground. They have not and do not. Dan Snyder picked the name the Commanders. We hate it. Change it back

  10. There will always be people demanding the return of the Redskins name and logo. But making the featherless spear their primary logo would make for a decent compromise. It's a nod to their history while avoiding too much invocation of controversial Native American symbols and imagery.

Spears are not exclusive to Native American tribes. They have been used as weapons by many different warriors and armies all across history. If they want to use it now to lean into a Greco-Roman aesthetic and portray themselves as modern-day gladiators, they should go for it.

Right now, I think they're just being careful and seeing what kind of a response it'll get by including the spear with the taco holder W on their black alternates. Hopefully it won't ruffle too many feathers (pun intended?) and they'll move to make it their primary logo in the future and downgrade the bland taco holder to a secondary logo.

  11. White people took the name away just like it was given as honor. but nope they said they know what it means. We cant have that!!! I am Native and it makes me sick they think it was racist. Just stupid judgement. We are Redskins and love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. I think if they made the logo a little "busier", they could get something akin to the old logo without crossing any lines. Maybe put a similarly stylized "W" and "C" inside of a circle, with both a spear going through the letters and some feathers on the W? That, a long with the rest of the uni basically being the classic scheme would scratch that retro itch, but in a new way.
