Mets Lineup – April 17

  1. I mean, I get it from a theoretical on paper standpoint. Benge fast, Bo contact, Lindor/LRJ power. But in the current context, idk about hitting a guy who is struggling with a .237 obp first. Why not LRJ/Bo/Lindor/Alvy (then whoever) and Benge 9?

  2. Moving Lindor out of the leadoff spot…I don’t think it’s worth it. But I miss Nimmo. Nimmo thrives as a leadoff hitter.

  3. Is this a joke? You noticed the leadoff hitter was struggling so you replaced him with a dude struggling significantly worse??

  4. the only thing I like here is Alvy batting 5th, although he should be hitting 4th honestly. Other than that wtf is Benge doing batting leadoff

  5. You know what, have to change it up, clearly it wasn’t working. Maybe have some luck

  6. Offense has been as cold as possible for a week.

The team changes up the lineup (also what led to the team’s offensive Renaissance in 2024).

    Doomers: what are they doing?!

  7. Happy with them trying anything with the lineup honestly. That being said, I’ll be watching through my fingers for the 6-9 hitters, as if I’m watching a horror movie.

  8. I get that it’s a good idea to shake things up with how this current skid has gone…but this is not what I had in mind.

  9. The deck chairs on the Titanic are being rearranged.

I have no problem with it.  The offense can’t get any worse and shaking things up might help and can’t hurt

  10. I said Alvy would be hitting cleanup by the end of the month… Only 13 more days to move up one more spot…

  11. credit due for this change, whether it works or not it doesn’t matter, something had to be done and this is the most obvious of the **feasible** options.

  12. Don’t even care. Something changed. That’s progress. Melendez should be in the 3 tho lol

  13. I get what they’re trying to do in alleviating Lindor from shouldering the burden of leading off and maybe giving him a potential runner on base prior to going up ther might ease things up for him. But I don’t think putting that burden on an already struggling rookie’s shoulders is making things any better either.

Just for fantasy managing, here’s what I would do.

    3B Bichette
    SS Lindor+
    C Alvarez
    CF Robert Jr.
    LF Melendez*
    DH Vientos
    1B Baty*
    2B Semien
    RF Benge*

Bichette hasn’t been great but he hasn’t been godawful in April. His putrid March really dragged his overall numbers down but starting from April 1 he’s had a .281/.328/.386 line. Hopefully he can take 5+ pitches and get on base and provide Lindor the ability to see what the pitcher is working with before taking his first plate appearance.

Give Melendez a game in the OF and see how much ground he can cover in Citi. Robert and Benge can cover a lot of zone so hopefully Melendez’s workload would be easier than he had trying out the OF in Kansas City.

If Alvarez is starting, he also needs to be batting higher up so that he can get potentially five plate appearances in. He’s the only one really mashing the ball and Robert’s hot streak has ended. I don’t know why he’s been batting so high and was batting second in some games. Alvarez protecting Lindor has to be superior to Robert protecting him IMO

  14. I get they are trying to change it up and I like Benge’s spirit but the guy can’t hit at the moment. Why put him first?!
