I know he was a miss, but I guess I never expected him to be good, so I feel like there have to be bigger misses out there.

  1. He’s certainly in the conversation. Him and Burns for sure. The Steelers really needed CB help during their last Super Bowl window, and Burns did not help at all.

  2. Jamain Stephens was probably worse, and Gabe Rivera too (although if he didn’t get in the DUI crash he may not have been)

  3. No, not even in this century. Artie Burns. Jarvis Jones. Terrell Edmunds. Pickett at least had a winning record as a starter and it’s not like he was surrounded by weapons.

  4. nonsense id say jarvis jones but my older cousins prolly say jamain stephens

  5. Jamain Stephens was drafted in the first round, started 11 games and was cut after two years. Out of the league by 27 with only 4 more starts.

  6. No. Not even close. He would have had to be rated higher pre draft. He was a reach , not a bust.

  7. No that is Huey Richardson. He was picked 15th overall in 91 and only played in 5 games and made 2 tackles before getting traded and he was out of the league after the 1992 season

  8. as much as it can be discounted because it was a 2nd round pick, Limas Sweed was truly a generational nothingburger

  9. 1996 1st Round pick Jamain Stevens, a tackle out of NC A&T. He played in 19 games in two seasons.

  10. Tim Couch was not a draft bust because of his play. He was a bust because the Browns front office didn’t protect him with an o-line, nor put talent around him.

A much better candidate would be Manziel.

  11. Troy Edwards. Won the Biletnikof and we took him #13th overall. Only on the team 3 years, had 61 catches his rookie year and then did nothing. Bounced around the league for a few more and was done by the time he was 28.

  12. The Steelers also had the Bears’ biggest draft bust in the same QB room! Incredible!

  13. Oh hell no. We had a higher first round pick on a tackle under cowher that was cut for failing the run test at camp.

We had Jarvis jones that peaked during preseason his rookie season.

We had bush that we traded way up for who had one good season.

We had Artie burns that couldn’t cover his bed with a fitted sheet.

We’ve had a lot of picks worse than Pickett.

  14. Walter Abercrombie says “Hold my Beer.” And Huey Richardson says “not so fast my friend”

Jarvis Jones if they wanted to stay in the 2000s

  15. We took Tim Worley at #7 and that did not pan out at all. But unfortunately Huey Richardson is the right answer, he might’ve been the first player described as a “tweeter”, not big enough to play end and not athletic enough to be an OLB. Seems like he did well for himself after football, so good for him.

  16. I can’t believe anyone actually said Gabe Rivera in this thread. Before he dies in a car crash, and despite playing limited snaps he already had 2 sacks in just 6 games as a Nose Tackle. Bob Baumhower led the league for NT that season with 8. As Rivera’s snap count grew, it wouldn’t have been hard to see Rivera challenging that number. Senor Sack was on his way to a promising career that could have seen him being a big part of the Steelers defense for a long time.

There are two main candidates for worst first round pick. Pre-Noll it was Dick Leftridge who disappered from the league after 4 games. Post-Noll it is Jamain Stephens who played in only 19 games, was lackluster in those performances and was eventually cut by Bill Cowher because he showed up to camp fat and out of shape.
