Really the only thing stopping me from liking the hornets completely is Lemelo tripping people and the occasional goofs. It reeks over compensating: “I am not good enough to actually win so I am going to cheat because I know I will get away with it some.” They are such a fun team other than the immaturity. Playing fast and loose is possible when you have a really good defensive anchor and 4 real shooting threats on the floor at any given time. Its a different but fun identity even if they really need to tighten up their scheme to actually win anything. Overwhelming offense, fast pace, and good enough defense can win if they can find away to tie the two together.
I want to root for Orlando so bad because Bane but also because I loved their defensive mindset and actually wanting to have an identity (even if its as simple as be big). But Bane crashing out and the whole team deeling disjointed and unorganized at times just makes them not fun to watch for me. I feel like a good ego check and step forward for Paolo, another solid 3 and D guy, renewed commitment to their defense, and just a new coach who knows how to help facilitate all of that would really make them my favorite team in the East.
I was anyway, they’re my fav team outside of the Grizz. Love the colors and team identity. Have for a long time now.
Doesn’t hurt that they’re maybe the only team more overlooked in the league than we are!
All they need to do is get rid of Bridges.
