  1. Leafs, like the jays, used once again as leverage for someone to go where they want. If I worked in the leafs management group I’d be telling my sources for leaks o otherwise keep our name out of your mouth.

  2. If they keep Berube, they may as well trade Matthews, Nylander, Knies, Tavares, hell move Cowan and every prospect because we are screwed for a long, long time. Not only is he the worst coach in the NHL, as far as I can tell pouring through data over the last 50 years, he is the single worst coach the NHL has had since the 1980's. If he remains in his post, it means that Toronto would rather be the worst team in hockey, and lose out on tens of millions in playoff revenue, to save a guaranteed 4 million. The only time in the last 50 seasons that Toronto has had numbers has bad as Berube has had the past two years were the 80's before Wendel Clark was drafted, and close to it were the Carlyle years.
Carlyle also was a stanley cup winning coach 5 years before signing, preached defensive, physical hockey and limiting high danger chances, used a 1-2-2 forecheck, and had most of the offense generated via rush offense with a high-scoring winger (Kessel/Nylander), and made the playoffs in their first years with completely unsustainable goaltending (Reimer 0.924, Stolarz 0.926), and they both collapsed to the bottom of the league the following year, which was in line with their underlying numbers the year prior except for goaltending. He needs to go, or nothing else matters. Toronto cannot succeed and Matthews cannot succeed playing under Berube.
Berube is a Cancer to the sport of hockey, and the city of Toronto. Either he leaves, or relocate the team, because Toronto is dead if he stays.

  3. Can we please just get people who've done it before and know what they're doing 😫 did this franchise seriously learn nothing from hiring a rookie GM with no negotiation skills or prior NHL experience?!

  4. Can you guys change the clip at the end? Steve yelling at the end of every podcast especially one as chill as this always throws me off

  5. If Matt’s joins the leaf’s and becomes a gm vise gm or president that will help make this season hurt a little less bit if leaf’s gets rinsed the the draft lottery that’s gonna hurt also

  6. no offense to mats, i liked him as a leafs but he didnt bring any cup home, didn't really drop the gloves, what roll model capacity would he contribute to?? now gilmour would be ideal he has won a cup with calgary and he is not a sundin or matthews size but gilmour will drop the gloves and he plays with grit and times plays a mean streak and he will stick up for his team mates, now that's a captain. Now that is a roll model. as far as the players they need someone or two young player to take the freakin lead and not go though another decade of chocking your chicken.

  7. At this point, having a Leaf Legend in an office role can only help. We have enough suits ruining…er…I meant running the show, injecting a real hockey mind into the mix is all upside at this point. I would take the input from Mats Sundin over Chat GPT any day lol.

  8. 16:02 the comments do get more concerning when you realize his home town is 5hrs from Vegas and his best friend/career line mate just signed there long term.

  9. funny to hear your perspective on auston matthews leaving toronto talk when the exact same thing is true of crosby. everyone was saying crosby is going to leave, he's going to colorado, etc. despite the fact that his actions AND his words showed he only wanted to stay in pittsburgh….

  10. No chance Sundin comes back to this mess. Besides, he's been completely gone from hockey since he retired, he has no knowledge on how the game is managed these days. Nice name to float, but no chance.

  11. I highly doubt Mats Sundin will take a job with the Leafs, but even if he was interested he has no experience. Doug Gilmour makes more sense as he actually has management experience in Hockey. If you want a former captain of the team to be the GM, hire Dougie.

  12. As much as I love Sundin, why should I believe that he would do a good job at building a winning team? In my opinion you go with Brandon Pridham who is the analytical mastermind and got very little credit for what he did when Dubas was GM. You give him the reigns and bring in someone like Spezza as assistant GM who is also a huge hockey nerd. For president maybe you bring in a "hockey guy" for culture.

  13. Nope thanks.
Had a couple of good playoffs runs. Nothing more than that.
Was a selfish POS and did not waive his NTC til the very end. Left and signed with the Nucks instead.
He has some talent on the ice, but knows no more about front office work than Brenden Shanascam

  14. If Sundin gets a job in front office, that will it for me.
    So tired of stupidity.
The Leafa haven't had a strong front office since Cliff Fletcher.

  15. Pelley talked about the possibility of several different positions. In that vein I could see Mats in some capacity. Certainly could be an anchor developing good culture in the organization. What's Mats business acumen? Could you see Mats as the figurehead guy with 2 GM's. One, player personnel and, one operations.

  16. Why speak to Sundin now? He will not be President. He will not be G.M. Choose the person(s) who will fill those positions first.

It is obvious that Keith Pelley does not know how a succesful Hockey Organization should be built. For Chrissake's, hire someone who does, NOW.

  17. Gillis as POHO
    Sundin as VP
    Pridham as GM

Pridham is exactly the guy we have always wanted calling the shots. Cap Management, Analytics savvy, has a large say in some of our best draft prospects we have had. Let him unleash the in house departments that have been held back since Dubas' firing.

  18. Nothing matters while Pelley is still in charge. Of course he is talking to Sundin – Pelley can jack his ego by treating him as his "mentor".

  19. Matt’s first order is to get experience with a running a hockey team. But yes he would be a steadier competitor as GM and he would care about everything else including the team performance on the ice. He would rip off the bandaids and start the healing process with the fans.

  20. 33:20 Maybe they didn't maximize everything they could have at the deadline; but I'd say the day before, getting a conditional 1st round pick for Nicolas Roy was a steal. Not to take away from him as a player, but anything with the word 'first' attached to Roy is a pretty dang good return.

  21. Be bold. Make Mats GM and Gillis Head of Hockey Ops. Have Gillis mentor Mats for a year, with joint control of trades. Trade Matthews while he still has value – starting young C/W + D + a pick. Trade Joseph, Domi, Carlo, Reilly for whatever you can get. Sign Robertson if you can get a reasonable contract. Ditto Macelli, Lorentz and Benoit. Jarnkrok is gone, Quillan back to the minors. Promote Groulx or Haymes and Villeneuve full time. Hold on to the 4 goalies till a team gets desperate mid-season.
