Alarm UPDATE: 49ers just did EXACTLY what fans wanted

The San Francisco 49ers have officially hosted Arizona State offensive tackle Max Iheanachor for a Top 30 visit-and fans are fired up. In this update, David Lombardi breaks down why Iheanachor was the clear winner of our recent fan poll and how he fits into the 49ers’ 2026 draft strategy.

Iheanachor is one of the most intriguing prospects in this class. At 6’6″, 320+ pounds, the former soccer player from Nigeria didn’t begin playing football until 2021. Despite his background, he didn’t allow a single sack in his final season at ASU.

We explore the “ambitious path” for Iheanachor: could he begin at left guard to provide immediate impact before eventually succeeding Trent Williams at left tackle? David also dives into the 49ers’ offensive line depth, potential guard rotations with Robert Jones, and how the team is building “option power” heading into the draft.

In this video:

• Breakdown of Max Iheanachor’s elite athletic profile and unique background
• What his Top 30 visit signals about the 49ers’ draft plans
• The feasibility of a guard-to-tackle transition
• Comparing Iheanachor to other prospects like Caleb Lomu

  1. Max Iheanachor has incredible upside but is still raw. Would you rather the 49ers take a high-ceiling project like Max at 27, or play it safe with a more 'pro-ready' prospect?

  2. This feels like one of those situations where 2 videos from now Lombardi Himself is going to be calling us fans idiots for ever thinking the 49ers would draft an OT high.

  3. I hope they do not stop here, stockpile O Linemen. Sign as many as possible to the practice team. There is sure to be injuries and if 49ers can call upon those from the practice squad, it will help. When you have stong O Linemen that can step in, while the others are healing, then they will be more fresh as the season wears on. If Shanahan is a run first pass second, then for pete's sake, stock up on O Line.

  4. Since we paid Purdy, it's time to invest in protecting him. I would be ok going Edge in first round if we take a guard like Gennings Dunker in the 2nd who has tackle experience.

  5. Iheanachor is my choice..yeah, yeah I know, he’s raw and needs coaching…the problem is that the 9ers have ignored the offensive line, and especially a replacement for Williams, far too long…Trey Lance was as raw, if not more raw than Iheanachor, and it didn’t seem to bother most 9er fans when they drafted him…in fact many fans were on the Lance bandwagon before he proved himself…draft him, and deal with the rookie mistakes and miscues..I think he’s worth the pick..what the hell, the Lynch-Shanahan draft record is the shits anyway..if they draft this guy, he can learn from one of the best ever

  6. If you watch him at the senior bowl, there are multiple top pass rushers that went against him and he dominated every single player. Nobody dominated him. I think he is the future tackle for many years for the 49ers

  7. The problem with Max is if he doesn't start at guard and we bring Trent back he doesn't make the team on the field better outside of an injury. The moves the 49ers have made such as Evans and Greenlaw on short deals and giving up their 3rd for OSA is they are trying to give their core older players a chance to win a SB over the next couple years. Kittle, Trent, Juice CMC Warner etc.
Yes they are getting younger on defense but I think they if they are going SB or bust its a WR (due to salary inflation) an OG or a DE best of those 3 to fall to them at 27 or consider a trade back. I don't see them taking a project left tackle if the goal is to try to win a SB in 2026 it just doesn't fit with the strategy I'm seeing them take.

  8. I'd still like to see them draft Monroe Freeling. Pittsburgh, Minnesota, and the Jets all need a QB. I'd be on the phone with all of them about swapping 1st round picks along with a Mac Jones trade.

Newsflash: like Sam Darnold, Jones will get offers that the 49ers cannot match next year. At best they're might get a 4th or 5th round comp pick. Use Jones to improve the draft position before his value is gone!

  9. I can't deal with what if's… to much drama. Speculation is another road to disappointment. Like last night's fall of the Warriors worn me out… all I want is something I can count on yet in realistic terms that leaves death and taxes not a cheerful future. David, you have always done a splendid job, don't let it slip away… keep on fighting the good fight.

  10. Max isnt going to play this year. Zero evidence he can just come play G and do it well. Plus he may just be a RT.

I'd be on board if we dont resign Trent.

Otherwise take Raheem's favorite EDGE or a WR if cannot trade back from 27.

But IF Lynch has Iheanachor on a tier above the other players available at 27 in terms of BPA, then yes take him. We need to upgrade the talent meter on this team first and foremost.

Not sexy but if Keydan McDonald is there at 27 he is BPA and a better football player than Iheanachor and all the others. Does everyone trust Collins and West to be a star DTs? I dont. McDonald (or even Christen Miller) is in play imo as Lynch never shuts up about DL being the foundation. Jaishawn Barham starting to look like he is worth #58 at EDGE allows a DT or OL pick in the 1st.

    27. Keydan McDonald / Christen Miller DT

    58. Jaishawn Barham EDGE

    127. Jalen Farmer G

    133. Kaleb Proctor DT

    138. Kendrick Law WR

    139. Travis Burke OT

  11. The 49ers got OUTSCORED 54 to 9, the last 2 games of the year vs SEA. I don't think any singular O lineman or DE can change that much.
Am I the only one wanting to 49ers to move up to get an elite offensive weapon? Run 13 personnel?

  12. Faithful I love ya'll! But you're killing me 🤦🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️…These projects NEVER work out. We are so close to finally getting that Super Bowl. We need to draft REAL FOOTBALL PLAYERS and tighten this up so we can cross that finish line….If this guy is available later sure have fun 👍🏽…but that first round pick should be someone who helps us close the deal this year 🤞🏽

  13. You don’t pay 1st round $ to a player like that. And just bc they use a 30 visit on a player doesn’t mean they’re looking to draft him now. It’s also a way to see the player up close and personal physically and get to know him as a human bc he’ll be a free agent in 4 years and they won’t get that opportunity once another team drafts him. For example, they could have loved Christian Kirk coming out of college but didn’t get him… the 30 visit gave them the opportunity to be around and fall in love with him as a man and after years of proving himself as a player, there’s no hesitation once he’s available years later like this year to sign him. I guarantee John Lynvh doesn’t care even a lil bit what this channel thinks when building his team. This channel is 100% reactionary, no insider info at all. No relationships with the office, just a fan with access and no real football experience or X and O knowledge.

  14. NFL analysts and 49ers fans would love 49ers to take OL in 1st Rd but history has proven that under Lynch and Shanahan, they go for reach than BPA. More likely DE or Safety
