  1. The A's pain was the Cardinals' gain. The big worry when the trade happened, from the St. Louis side, was what Brett Wallace would turn into. Along with guys like Jess Todd and Colby Rasmus, Wallace was one of the names with bigger hype at the time.

I had forgotten that the Cards were in on Holliday the offseason before. Skip Schumaker was relied on by the Cards to play second base in 09, his first year at the position (and they would later repeat it with Matt Carpenter a few years later). The funny thing is, Mitchell Boggs wound up playing for the Rockies… in 2013.

Overall, the Holliday era was a fun ride (for STL fans at least).

  2. Financially Boras screwed Holliday in the long run. If he would have taken the 5 yr 107mil offer from the Rockies he would have gotten another decent contract at the end of his career. After the 5 years expired was the exact last productive year of his career lmfao. Someone woulda paid him again at 34 yrs old. 7 years 120 mil… 13 mil for 2 bad seasons. Bet he woulda got at least 40 if not 60-80 if he was a FA that year

  3. As an A's fan back then, your loyalty was always on a swivel. You could fall in love with a player, think they are going to stick around for years, and then they get traded on their bobblehead night (Cespedes)
