5. Lets JVR, Perron walk. Trade away Copp (MIN for picks), Compher (STL) and Rass (LA for a pick or Van for a pick ). Pressbox Appleton. Only resign Kane to a 1 year identical deal as 25/26. Him and Appleton are both gone after 26/27 season for 2 more kids coming up for the 27/28 season.

   STL Gets Compher, Danielson, Postava, First Rounder 27, First Rounder 29 For Thomas(1C).

   Sign Mcmann 5×5.5 (1LW), Greer 3×2.75m (4RW), Mazur 2×1.25m (4LW), Stenlund 3x3m (4C)

   Extend both Cat (8x10m) and Edvinsson (7x8m)

   New Lines and Forward group for 26/27=
   Mcmann – Thomas – Raymond
   Cat – Larkin – Kane
   Finnie – Kasper – MBN
   Mazur – Stenlund – Greer

   Top 6 is majorly improved with some more grit and all 1LW 1C and 2C are ugraded. All kid speed and physical 3rd line. Majorly upgraded physical and gritty 4th line who can all handle the PK. PP is upgraded with Thomas and Mcmann added to the mix. 2nd PP is now more formidable as well. Fire Tanguay. 5 stanley cup winners now in the lineup.

7. Faulk has been good, really improved our defense and threw in some goals to boot. He is FAR from the issue, that was a win for Yzerman. That bottom 6 though….

8. Your thoughts on this video are solid. I have been a fan since 1966, love the Wings but not ineptitude or mediocrity. Yes they managed to accumulate enough points to be close in the standings but this team is not interesting or entertaining. They are a team whose finesse players are not elite, whose big players are not physical or tough to play against, and whose prospects are safe picks but low ceiling guys. Their bottom six do not provide a pushback when needed. What is their identity? That is the question. Finesse? Tough? Puck possession? Detroit is none of that. Just a mushy middle 10-20 ranked team. I'd like to see SY replaced, the pro and amateur scouting guys replaced, player development crew replaced. I'm willing to give McClellan some more time but if he is let go, I don't think it is that big of a loss. Over the past 60 years, I have never been less enthused about our team.

10. Team got older slower and more expensive. That can only work to get you over the hump on an already playoff team but absolute disaster for a team not sniffing the playoffs for 9 years running. Yzerman needs to go.

11. I think the Original Sin is Ken Holland completely WHIFFING on 6-7 straight 1st round draft picks. The only good pick he made was Larkin. And it’s not like his other picks just failed to live up to expectations…they literally weren’t/aren’t even NHL players. You can’t whiff on that many 1st Round picks and move the franchise forward.

    With that being said…I haven’t been thrilled with Yzerman’s 1st Round picks outside of Seider, Raymond, and Edvinsson. It just seems like every time there is drop off in prospect quality right before we go on the clock. Regardless, teams should be using their 1st Round picks on guys who have superstar/top-of-the-lineup upside…not 3rd liners.

15. The Red Wings need to get bigger, tougher and more physical. They are a small, soft, finesse team who lives on the perimeter. They need to get tougher to play against.

18. All these arm chair managers and coaches just do not get. You cannot trade your way out of it. Growth has to come from within. It takes longer when you have no draft luck. Larkin is very good player but not a number one centre and the price tag for a number one or two centre is prohibitively high, much too high

22. To be fair Steve yzerman said at the beginning of the year with expectations were that the team could fight for a wild card spot. I'm quite sure what the new lineup changes the team will look much better but they're still going to need time to gel. It's chemistry now

So I watched your video, and I think you spent WAY too much time harping on Justin Faulk, who just got here and was as much an acquisition for next year when they’ll likely split up Chiarot & Faulk so they can pair AlJo (who was great late this season and is emerging as a very good puck mover) with him and have Chiarot run with ASP/JBD.

    What you really missed on and needed to focus more on was the bottom-6 and the forward group in general. Our D was fine, and only ever looked exposed when our forward group failed to sustain offensive pressure (3rd worst at 39% 5v5 OZone possession) and execute breakouts.

    Looking at the unit as a whole, our 5v5 chance rankings, where we were 9th in rush chances, 14th in forecheck chances, but sub-25th in cycle and second chances, and the aforementioned god-awful OZone possession metric the reason we missed this year (and the previous two) is really clear. This team is either incapable or unwilling to generate the kind of offense that works in tight, late season games. Personally, I lean towards the latter. Forechecking and cycling don’t take insane skill to pull off, just effort, commitment, and execution. The rush offense we’re good at generating is also the “easy offense” coaches look to eliminate in their defensive strategies and tape analysis. Teams get tape and their systems solidify, and this team fails to find another way. We fail to maintain possession, leading to our D and goaltending getting overworked, and by March it falls apart. This team has a serious problem, but it’s overwhelmingly up front and as much mental as it is personnel driven.

    The hit leaders in the forward group had a combined one season of NHL experience coming into this season in Kasper & Finnie, while 6’6” 235lb Rasmussen could barely record a hit per game. Compher continued his cardio streak from last season until the Larkin injury, but it’s unacceptable to be that ineffective against what should be lesser bottom-6 competition for him. JVR had his moments but looks like he just ran out of gas, and Perron probably came back too early and was a jersey. Copp was good, not great as the 2C. His defensive responsibility is a good foil to Kane’s all-offense mentality, and his checking pairs well with Cat’s, he just can’t finish.

    As for where they go next you’re right about the team needing a serious shakeup up front and some consequences need to be felt by the “jerseys” with term.

    After buying out Ras, finding a move for Compher, and letting all UFAs not named Kane walk, we should only seek to acquire strong forechecking forwards to change the mentality of our bottom 6 and better balance our top 6.

    Targets should be a 1LW or 2C via trade, I’m leaning more towards a 2C because I think with a good offseason MBN can be that physical 1LW to complement Larkin & Raymond. Then look at guys like McMann to add more of a checking mentality to our bottom 6. And move Finnie to center, because he’s a center.

24. The issue the Red Wings are having is a culture issue and there’s only so much leadership can do when certain players on a team refused to listen. In my honest opinion, Compher, Rasmussen, and Appleton need to go as they do not fit into the culture and our disconnect for the team. I will say that the blame is to go all around, leaving out Debrincat and Seider. Those two have brought their a game to pretty much every single game this season that cannot be said for the rest of the team.

26. The real question is what's become of the culture in that locker room? Larkin slamming management last year for not paying a premium at the trade deadline to slide into an 8th seed and lose in the first round is indicative of a real disconnect between the locker room and the front office. As a lifelong wingnut I'm maddened by this "performance", but I don't agree with you classifying Larkin as "untouchable." Leaders lead by example, not blaming management

27. Faulk isnt the issue, the D is passable.
    Copp and Compher were supposed to be placeholders as the rebuild is happening. Though it is time for them to play 4th line minutes
    Which FA should he have signed? And how do you know he didnt try to go after them and they said they dont want to sign in Detroit. This aint GM mode where you can just sign anyone.
    Same with trades. The market price this year was extremely high and he wanted to reward the team for a great start. Nobody was complaining about his trade (aside from protection clause) but most people thought it wouldnt matter.

29. ugh, so sick of all these "fans" saying how the trades were no good but the same people were complaining if we make no trades. You're missing the one very simple and key point to all the "I wish we would have gotten [insert crazy good player name]." EVERYONE wishes we got them. STEVIE fuckin Y wishes we got them too. BUT a GM doesn't get to just go "give me that guy, give me that guy and that guy. done." They have to have a selling GM willing to make that trade, and no trade guys have to say yes to Detroit. NO ONE is saying yes to this team right now. I agree, pro scouting is terrible, but it's not hard for even the dumbest of fans to know what we NEED, it does however, take a professional NHL GM to actually GET those guys and sometimes, it's as simple as the other team didn't want to deal with us. Faulk solved a major issue in the defense. I think the deal wasn't going to happen with a protected 1st or Steve would have done it. Would you rather him turn that trade down and keep the first? Hell yea…NOW. But at the trade deadline? Nope. You're lying if you say you would walk from that trade and stick with the D we had. The culture doesn't get fixed by good scouting and trades.

31. This team is weak and has no grit or toughness or speed! 5 on 5 play is horrible and this team needs a total transformation! Get rid of Copp,Compher, Rasmussen for sure! Kane you could keep JVR put on 4th 3rd at best and power play outside of that then consider letting go and getting younger. Cossa needs to come up and be a regular or trade him and get a top six forward or top four defensemen who’s a specialist on both sides of ice . We need the quit being soft or else bye bye Stevie! We loved you as a player but GM not so at this point. You have failed us and the team
