As someone who’s lived here his whole life and vividly remembers sitting in a class full of other 10 year olds while our teacher tried to explain with tears in her eyes what had just happened some 35 miles north of us, the team and championship are special. It’s just sports… but it’s also so much more. Thank you thunder and…. LETS GO!!!

  1. I’m up in the KC area, I showed that picture to some friends including a lady at church. She started crying, I didn’t know but apparently she lived in OKC back when she was in med school and lived through that.

  2. I know the word “iconic” is thrown around a lot, but this picture truly is.

  3. I was 4 when it happened. I live in BA. It’s an indelible memory seeing the terror that day on the screen, and my parents trying to calm us when it happened. They pulled us out of class to make sure we would be okay. The championship win last year 30 years after the fact felt like such a turnaround from that time.

When people ask why I love The Thunder, this is a big reason why. They have uplifted our state in ways unimaginable in my lifetime. I never thought I’d see such unity and happiness around our state than what happened last year. Not only does this team stand up for our community in ways above and beyond what many might do, but they represent the best of us.

The fact that every employee is required to visit the Memorial shows their commitment to making our state a better place. It’s always people first, players 2nd.

The investment this team makes in our home state is 2nd to none

The Thunder represents the hope that things are going to get better in Oklahoma from here on, and that we don’t have to return to the worst days of our lives. The future is bright.

I’m going to do a lesson this year on the OKC Thunder for my class this year. It’s my finest lesson for sure. I’m showing this photo in my presentation as part of the presentation. I want to remind my kids of the great things this organization does not only for basketball, but for our state writ large.

  4. This is one of those pictures that will go down in OKC history. Whether you follow the thunder or like them or w/e, in 100 years when they show a compilation of pics of what it means to be an Okie, this one will for sure be still there.

  5. this picture gives me goosebumps every time i see it. the victims should’ve been able to see us win the championship
