Well, not officially and mathematically, but, non-snarkily, already almost so by historic precedent with their 10-game losing streak. Per Jesse Rogers:

The New York Mets will have to defy the odds if they plan on making the postseason this year after dropping their 10th consecutive game on Saturday, a 4-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs.

Only three teams in the divisional era (since 1969) have made the postseason after a double-digit losing streak — including last year's Cleveland Guardians.

Well, maybe the Mets will get hope from Cleveland, but still.

Per the piece, POBO David Stearns gave manager Carlos Mendoza the (often-dreaded) vote of confidence. Maybe he needs one from owner Steve Cohen. Rogers notes most his offseason moves haven't done much so far.

  6. The vibes are at all time lows. David Sterns single handedly massacred the mets that got to the nlcs in 2024 and has made one bad decision after another.

  9. couldn’t happen to a more deserving fanbase in mlb. owner is a delusional fantasy baseball clown and everything the mets do is blown out of proportion. get those national broadcast window games out of the way by july just like every year and all is well in mlb.

  12. Remember attended Nats-Mutts game, Mutt fans yelling “Harvey’s Better” with Strasburg pitching. Stras won WS MVP after he was held out of playoffs in his season after his Tommy John, while Mutts didnt after Harvey’s.

  16. Hasn’t this literally happened to the Mets almost every season since 1990? Pay for big time free agents, they’re busts, Mets trade them, they find success with other teams, Mets continue to overpay and underachieve. Repeat.

  26. The family guy joke where the Mets lose game one and the announcers say they have been eliminated from playoff contention is one of my all time favorites.

  29. The entire team looks unprepared and over matched. It makes you question how much work the players put in during the offseason.
