Wembanyama was a virtual lock to win Defensive Player of the Year in 2024-25 before a blood clot cut his season short at 46 games.
He was the first unanimous winner of the award in NBA history.
Wembanyama is also an MVP finalist alongside Nikola Jokić and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

First of many
And the youngest, we are witnessing the greatest defensive peak ever
The first of many to come
well deserved if heathly wemby potently go down as the greatest defender of all time.
How many does he win unanimously before voters get bored?
Do we have the voting breakdown?
There’s been some awards in the past where you could argue it should be unanimous, I think this is the only one where you don’t even need to argue it’s just not even close
He was the Prince that was Promised, the Boy foretold to restore Targaryen Glory.
The Bill Russell rings picture but with DPOYs is getting closer and closer
Is anyone surprised lmao bros a demon lmao
It will be his title to lose for a while now
Completely deserved. That being said, the comment in the article is hilarious: “My shot-blocking is something I’ve been working on forever. It’s probably the area of my game where I feel most comfortable at.”
Like, i’m not saying it’s not something he practiced, but come on my guy, you are 7 foot a jillion inches, this is not something that requires much work.
Bro played in just 46 out of 82 games last season and still led the league in total blocks haha
He should be a lock for DPOY for many years to come if he meets the game requirements
He’s going to in it for the next 6 years in a row if he remains healthy
Will be his award for the next 6 years at the minimum.
He should have been last year too, it’s his to lose for the next decade.
I have a feeling it won’t be the last time he’s a unanimous winner.
The question is if he’s healthy and meets the threshold, can anybody realistically challenge him for the award for the rest of his career? They should just name the award after him now.
if you think this guy is actually a good defender youre a casual. he jumps on every pump fake and can only recover because he is 6+ inches taller than the guy hes defending.
Thank god it was unanimous, congrats Vic!
Is it too early to call him the greatest defender ever?
probably wouldve already done this if not for the blood clot last year
