Jovanovic has served as the equipment manager since 1988 when the Charlotte expansion franchise was introduced. The move has completely shocked people.

Big Shot was universally beloved- by former players, coaches, current staffers, people who hadn't been associated with the organization in years. After 38 years with the franchise. His dismissal has left people inside and outside the building in disbelief.

Former New Orleans Hornet David West chimes in saying “The right thing to do was let Shotty decide when it was time. Shameful and embarrassing….”

  1. Tough world man. Mavericks and Knicks did something similar in recent years to their head equipment guy.

  2. Need more details before I shit on the Pelicans. I think they’ve been through enough.

  3. Dumass is just trying to figure out who keeps screwing up the Pelicans’ seasons.

  4. It’s been reported he was fired via email. Just a deeply unserious franchise

  5. For those trying to do the math, the equipment manager has been with the franchise since 1988 when the Hornets franchise was in Charlotte, and then subsequently moved to New Orleans.

My brain was like, New Orleans hasn’t had a team for 38 years…

  6. Joe dumars is the epitome of failing upwards. Don’t understand how this guy has been in so many powerful positions

  7. Quick! While all the headlines are on El Cheapo, let’s be quietly cheap

  8. This ownership combined with Dumars is going to burn this franchise to the ground, salt the earth, coat it with radioactive waste, then move the team to Nashville.

  9. Would be the funniest thing if next season guys have mismatched jerseys, wrong shoes, no practice balls, etc.

  10. Is there a pension or something he’s waiting on at 60? Assuming he joined at 21 he’d be 59 now

  11. Idk, I’m fine with this. It was pretty evident this season that the Pelicans were losing because of the equipment wasn’t being managed well enough

  12. Someone dig up some dirt on the bensons. This team needs a new owner like the blaze…. Oh wait

  13. Was he due up for a sweet retirement deal? I’m guessing he’s now 90 days short of a full vesting.

  14. Interacted with David many times when I worked as a locker room team attendant for a team. He was so kind, had so much energy and clearly loved what he did.

  15. This is actually such a horrible thing to do. Obviously we don’t know the reason but firing a guy who literally moved cities with the team and has dedicated his life to it is disgusting

  16. Big Shot was the man! Super nice, a legend in the building and super dedicated, serious about his job (and great at it!). The reporting that he was fired via email is absolutely disgusting. The bar was already low with this franchise but holy shit it’s in hell now

  17. Dumars destroying the Pels organization in more ways than one. It’s still perplexing how he was allowed to run an NBA franchise again after how badly he ruined the Pistons the last 5-7 years there.

  18. Guy was loved by the team and it showed. Hustled every game day making sure everything was accounted for, always a pleasure to work with. When I asked him a question he always had the answer because “trust me, I been doing this since before most of these guys were born.”

I work in hospitality, with NBA teams

  19. Finally got to the source of the problem. Good to see the brain trust in New Orleans really shine here.
