I think the Red Sox don’t deserve criticism
I came to post a joke like “I already loved him, I love him even more cause he hates the Red Sox too”
But then I read the article and he makes an actually good point. Private Equity has destroyed the Red Sox. Red Sox fans know this.
And the curse is spreading to other teams, like my Giants as well.
“reverse the private equity curse” that’s so funny they let the add sneak through in the first place.
He is right and unfortunately there is no easy solution. I know there are plenty of “sell the team” chants, but who is really buying a baseball team now? The days of excentric rich guys buying teams because they wanted to win, like Henry was at the beginning, are over. The price of teams in MLB has skyrocketed so much ( Henry bought the team for $660 million in 2002 or $1.2 billion adjusting for inflation versus their current value of roughly $5 billion) that only large private equity firms can afford the teams. I fear that is really the future of every single team if this keeps up.
