Mike Breen on SGA: “”Does [Shai] sell calls sometimes? Absolutely, but so do 287 other players in the NBA sell calls… When they weren’t a championship contender… nobody was complaining. They’re complaining now because they’re winning.”

  1. I’ve never seen a reigning dual MVP and FMVP winner that had to be defended this hard by league mouthpieces.

  2. “When nobody was watching them nobody cared” yes that makes sense

  3. I have not met one NBA fan that enjoys or wants to watch these guys “selling,” before or after OKC was winning. There were still complaints. This narrative is so bogus

  4. We’ve been complaining for years … ever since the Harden era in the Rockets.

If no one chooses to hear, that’s another issue.

  5. Mike Breen is not the right guy to talk about this. As the premier play-by-play guy for the NBA, he’s objectively not objective.

  6. NBA so good when you don’t got a bitch in your ear telling you it’s unwatchable

  7. What other excuses will losers make for losing if they can’t blame the refs?

  8. Nice “what about” try.

Sure everyone sells/flops, but maybe we could idk… look at the FREQUENCY AND SEVERITY of the flopping? Just a fundamental thought that even my 5 year old would bring up

  9. This argument has gotten so lost. Everyone agrees he does it. Its not his fault as long as the league allows it he’s not doing anything wrong.

SGA is simply not fun to watch play. And that is weird for a player that is on his way to having one on the greatest guard careers of all time. Nobody enjoys watching him play, he’s nobodies favorite player outside of OKC. I think thats the discussion worth having.

  10. Idk if referring to that fall rate analysis is hacky but sga being at 17% when the next highest player is <10% is all you need to know.

He is falling at least 70% more often on FG attempts than the next highest player. He is falling well over 100% more often than league average.

Sure 287 players are also doing it at times, but it is nowhere near the same rate. We’re talking about a guy throwing himself into the floor 1/6 times he takes a shot.

    It objectively sucks.

  11. >“Nobody was complaining”

How quickly we forget about James Harden’s 2019-2020 invasion of Poland

Edit: my point is that fans have always hated foul baiting, regardless of the perp

  12. When they weren’t contenders, nobody cared bc OKC is a tiny market with no real national following, so nobody was stuck watching their games in national slots.

  13. Stop making excuses for him. 287 other players don’t go to the extent as Shai

  14. You can’t be a small market, defensive focused team and get this much hate unless you’re doing something as egregious as they are.

  15. I hated Harden back then and I hate Shai/OKC now, miss me with that “nobody complained” bs

  16. The whole point is to make change and enforce rules like idk the flopping techs

  17. Divisional rivals have known this for a few years now, mainstream media just decided to ignore it so the NBA could have SGA as the new golden boy but they idiotically ignored that nobody likes watching him or the Thunder grift.

  18. This statement, by itself, is true. SGA does not flop significantly more than the other big floppers.

Flopping is only part of the problem though. The reality is that the same team should not get Dort/Caruso/iHart’s whistle on D and SGA’s whistle on O, at the same time, in the same game. It does not make sense and it’s embarrassing for the sport. This is an NBA problem, not specifically a Thunder problem, but they are the poster child for these issues and that makes them unlikeable and unethical.

  19. That is soft selling it.  People don’t like it, but the rules allow it.  They need to tighten up on it like they did the rip through

  20. The amount of people involved in the NBA that defend this shit is sickening. Im a sixers fan, but I get so frustrated when embiid is trying to draw contact more than just making the damn shot.

Its honestly an easy fix too. If the offensive player initiated contact, either offensive foul or no call, depending on the play.

  21. Embiid was unwatchable too. Harden, Embiid and SGA are the most pathetic players of the last 15 years.

    Ruined the game

  22. This is so stupid man, we’ve had how many media guys come out and defend SGA now? Like this is just not normal and the conversation in the NBA should not be dominated by a guy flopping it’s just horrible for the sport.

  23. game 4 SGA was flailing on the ground 6 times in just the 1st half.

  24. I hate this deflection, other players do something so we shouldn’t say anything about the guy and team that do it to an extreme degree.

It’s apparently binary, there’s no scale to it, there’s no nuance to it…it’s all or nothing.

    Frankly that’s bullshit.

  25. Listen. Two things can be true…

    1. Mike Breen is an amazing play-by-play guy.

    2. Mike Breen does not get to be the arbiter of what brand of basketball you choose to enjoy.

  26. James Harden, Trae Young and many more and now SGA. The problem with SGA is – that’s your MVP. We’re gunna have summertime mixtapes of the youth just flopping every shot then going crazy celebrating drawing a foul. The whole idea used to be to play through contact.

  27. No one was complaining? Flopping is probably the most complained about part of the modern game, especially by casuals

  28. No, we’re complaining now because we’re forced to watch this in the conference finals. Because don’t complain as much about a team missing the playoffs because they don’t watch them play.

  29. Some of us were complaining about OKC back in 2023 when they were .500

I will not be gaslit into thinking this hate is just from winning. I’ve enjoyed many past champions that beat my team. My hate is pure and unwavering.

  30. Receipts go back YEARS old man.

Sports talk is the easiest and most worthless job in the US
