If PG doesn’t come back looking like he used to well before we signed him then this team might be cooked. I have zero confidence in Joel ever being back to MVP level, and despite Maxey taking a leap he’s not consistent enough yet as a #1 option without having an all star level player or two with him. VJ has cooled off and looks like a good but not amazing rookie.
3-5 in our last 8 games…the 4-0 start was against bad teams…we need to get our shit together or we’re going to start sliding.
All im gunna say is Caris Levert was carving us like a fucking pumpkin while we generated horrific offense. That should not be happening.
I miss 2023
Worst loss of the season so far, Yes the Bulls game was bad, but atleast the Bulls had their full team in. Pistons without Cade, Duren, Thompson and Harris. Lack of any offensive scheme down the stretch was frustrating. There were no plays being run, it was just give the ball to Maxey and hope.
Grimes was dreadful, Nurse needs to be better at keeping the hot players in. Edwards should have been in over him in the 4th.
Drum was decent for most of the game, without Embiid, we need a big that can back him up. Bona ain’t it.
Barlow was good on return, helps replace the Walker minutes
I want to bitch about no Embiid, PG and McCain but the Pistons had no one. I’m not sure how the Pistons scored tonight 😂
Oh man, I fully expected that but still super frustrating.
We desperately need some more ball handlers outside of just Maxey. Grimes dribbles like he using a well loved, out of shape ball from an underfunded school and you can’t expect VJ to be a lead guard as a rook. Hopefully Jared and PG can come in and take some of those duties but damn, this team has lost some its heat.
If we’re cutting nurse just do it fast.
Bad loss. Was good to see VJ hit those jumpers tho
If JB was our coach we would be like 9-3 or 10-2. When the Cavs took a leap in 2022, he was their guy. For the first time, the Cavs could win without Lebron. His work with the Pistons proves it. Plus if they become a perennial contender I’ll take it, much better than constant Boston domination
Nick should just give his salary to Kawhi atp. Guy made his entire career and prolonged his bread-like shelf life.
First game of year I missed, just had a feeling.
Can we get Rui, PJ Washington, or Jalen Smith for Paul “Fall” George?
Our defense died when VJ sat down in the 3rd, no sense of urgency on offense and again, just a lot of people standing around. Having flashbacks of Doug Collins when he used to make Evan Turner, Jrue Holiday and Andre Iguodala do the weave into the half court offense to generate offense. Our current team offense does the weave into an ISO or just a pick and roll into an ISO. If the ball doesn’t move, it’s easier for the other team to play defense.
Welcome back, Barlow! Can’t believe we have Watford and Barlow types in this team.
Justin Edwards should get more minutes than Grimes next game.
We missed Kelly Oubre’s energy in this one.
On to the next one.
gotta stop watching Sixers games… honestly not worth it. even the games we win are excruciating to watch 9 out of 10 times.
86-75 with possession 1:30 left in the 3rd, ends qtr up 2 finishing with a half court buzzer beater 3. That stretch shifted everything
The Pistons had a 20 year timeline of being completely ass and they will be in the 3rd round before we do.
The actual turning point was Trendan Watford: -15. The guy couldn’t defend a lick. Actually, that’s been the case all season but you were rolling with Grimes+ Barlow defensively, and the second Watford comes in. It’s gone.
Legit, by far the worst defender I’ve ever watched.
VJ looks scared to dribble. Maxey needed him to get downhill, attack and draw fouls. Losing Oubre made us light on scoring. I like Barlow and Walker but both on the floor is rough.
That VJ dunk attempt and the LeVert quick threes killed the game
It’s not so much that Embiid isn’t playing as much it’s that Maxey doesn’t know how to play basketball with anyone else. Andre was more than good in this game.
Nick Nurse blows man. Always has. He got out-coached by Brett in 2019 and won bc Kawhi went nuclear. I’m tired of seeing most teams run competent offenses while the Sixers just run around and fall into Maxey hero ball every 4th
Bro I’m straight up not having a good time
No joke, we better see PG on Monday
Shoutout to everyone who watches this garbage at 1-3 am. Nick Nurse, you’re not welcome back in Europe.
I hope at least one of George/Embiid plays next game
Letting Duncan Robinson do you like that is embarrassing man. Can’t be a serious team and lose these games
Magnet ball + swallowed whistles. They hit a lot of tightly contested shots, we missed some open ones, any team in the NBA can beat any team in the NBA, etc. etc. Still disappointed, but whatever.
*Does Nurse scheme *anything* at the end? And why did we close with Grimes when he was struggling? Edwards was great.
*Barlow looked good off the injury.
*Halfcourt is a struggle.
*Really bad officiating, Detroit’s “physical” reputation does help them with the refs. We lost this, though, ultimately.
Biggest point to take out of this game is that VJ going for that dumbass poster led to a five-point swing that we never recovered from. He’s our future and a great guy and I hold nothing against him but he NEEDS to learn from this. He hasn’t gotten a SINGLE poster in, and most of them don’t even draw fouls. It’s also an injury risk to himself and others. He’s shown a lot of proficiency in adjusting to a layup. Do that every time down the floor.
I’d say the following needs to be drilled into player’s heads:
VJ: Don’t go for a poster when the game is anywhere close. Save the cool dunks for when they’re wide open. It’s irresponsible, dangerous, and I’m honestly shocked this is the first time it’s completely burned us.
Maxey: Contested midrange is your LAST RESORT. It’s better to try to create separation from 3, if you can’t drive through. Or pass it to someone else.
Bona: Don’t go for blocks from behind if it involves throwing your body forward; it’s a certain foul.
Grimes: Keep the passes simple whenever you can. The floor general in him just is not there right now.
Oubre: Don’t take threes that aren’t from the corner unless the shot-clock is low. Even a wide open one seems like a 20% chance. There are better shots available.
Edwards: Just watch the close-outs and the fouling. He was good today.
Drummond: Same as Bona, to a lesser degree. He was good, but too much fouling today.
Watford: Not really bad decision making, he was just very slow and unathletic today. Not sure what that was about.
Jabari kind of blended in, I didn’t see enough from him to make comments. I don’t have anything to criticize from Barlow.
No one wants to “onto the next one” a loss like this, but no other decision in an 82 game season. Onto the next one.
On the bright side, weekend can really only go up from here.
Yes Nurse has his flaws and he takes his fair share of the blame but what do people here actually expect him to do when he has 110m sitting in street clothes constantly. I honestly can’t wait for them contracts to end and we can move on
This Paul George signing is still unbelievable.
Grimes has a 1.3 assist to turnover ratio. Currently averaging 4.4 assists to 3.3 turnovers. He should be banned from dribbling the ball at any stage and should receive immediate help when he gets trapped in the corners. Grimes inability to self reflect on this and the coaching staff’s ignorance to let it happen is costing this team sorely at the moment.
It isn’t just the turnovers that are costly but the overall flow of the offence when he is given too much responsibility. Walker and Watford are capable passers, maybe trying to set them up at the high post with movement around them could help alleviate some of the issues until we get bodies back but I don’t know.
I think we need to look at giving Gordon or Sallis some minutes if PG and Mccain are still a few weeks off. See what they have, having Grimes run lead guard is clearly not working.
Edit: typo
Edit 2: For perspective this puts him 284th in the entire NBA in AST/TO ratio.
Wasn’t there supposed to be some brand new offense or something this season? I feel like we saw it more at the start of the season but it’s quickly reverted to last seasons offense style
Bad game for Grimes and VJ. Grimes shouldn’t be making these mistakes though
Can we convince the guys to actually try a little bit on heaves with 2 seconds left…Watford half heartedly chased Jenkins. We could have been up 5 going into the 4th.
I swear to god this team hasn’t had a healthy season in 15 years
This loss means birds are winning now at least. Not losing to Detroit twice in a 3 day span sorry I don’t make the rules.
Grimes 3/10 Kelly 1/5 before he goes down.
No Embiid , no PG, no McCain.
But the sub blames the coach .
You never expect to get screwed by your fellow alumnus, but that’s what Jenkins did to me tn😞. Seriously though, that was not a wise dunk attempt by VJ, I think that was a turning point in the game, gotta learn from it.🙏for Kelly, and we gotta get healthy.
I’m more than prepared to attach a pick and move PG on for someone that will actually play for us. We legitimately have 2 of the worst contracts in the league and people here are blaming the coach. No other coach in the league consistently has 2 max players sitting on the couch at home
I wish we fully had our pick this season, it’s only 1-4 protected
This draft is going to be deeeep
Sixers problems are the lack of plays being called. It’s a coaching issue. We just play iso ball. Don’t believe me? Look at the assist numbers for tonight’s game. Our 19 versus Detroit’s 32.
Incredibly deflating loss. Outscored in the 4th by scrubs. Couldn’t stop a bunch of jags. This is the sixers without embiid and PG… which at this point is the sixers. Gonna have to make some creative moves.
There were some bright spots but lots to be concerned about moving forward.
I dont know about you guys but I can live with the loss. Just hope we can find a way to bottle that team we were watching out of halftime. Barlow is so fun.
It was fun being a Sixers fan for 5 games lol
I can’t quite rationalize it but this hurts less than the others. I think at some point when they hit their eighth highly contested three I was able to throw my hands up and say “whatever”. You win some, you lose some.
We need Embiid on the court. Without Embiid, Maxey is not a great shooter percentage wise.
Kon nearly got 40 points yea we fucked up, we should’ve drafted him or Bailey.
Morey’s drafting record outside of maxey is not really gonna age well
Are the sixers making a point of not getting back on d in transition?
I feel like I’m seeing guys have the opportunity to get back. But they actually slow down to make sure they’re behind the offensive player and the other team gets a 5 on 4
The team is a few SGs, unskilled bigs, and journeyman wings that can’t generate consistent offense
Need the 110 million dollars sitting out to start participating
