[Schefter] After a historic 19-season run in Pittsburgh, Mike Tomlin just informed his team that he is stepping down as the Steelers head coach, sources tell @JFowlerESPN and me.

  1. It’s worth reaching out to see what his plans are, even if I’d prefer an offensive coach.

  2. I think this could be a great option. Never had a losing season and somehow kept things competitive for them even when seasons looked lost. Playoff record isn’t incredible, but I really think he’s a good step in the right direction

  3. Meh. Don’t move the needle for me. He’s Jon gruden 2.0 to me as far as the fit.

  4. We are a poverty franchise. I’ll take Tomlin any day if he wants to be here. 9-8 would be fucking great.

  5. It was time, kind of crazy to say. For me just like Harbaugh you kick the tires. I still want an offensive minded HC to pair with the possible incoming QB to ensure that they have stability.

  6. Seems like he might just need a break. Wouldn’t be surprised if he did what Sean Payton did leaving NO. He will be on some network next year.

  7. Getting him would require giving up draft capital to Pitt since he has two years on his contract still. I bet he pulls a Payton and takes a few years off.

Why downvotes? Pitt still has his rights even though he stepped down.

  8. Well we know for sure the Steelers are going to go after a youngster to be there next HC.

  9. if anybody wants Harbuagh but not Tomlin is crazy. Mike has done wonders with an absolute dogshit list of QBs.

  10. It was time for them to part ways. Great coach, i don’t want him though, i don’t think he’s a good fit.

  11. This man needs to chill on TV for a year or two after dealing with Antonio, Pickens, and DK for the last decade

  12. I’d be very surprised if he takes a job this year. I’d bet he does media for a year and comes back next season.

Meanwhile, this actually sucks for us because it’s another HC opening we have to compete with.

  13. Bengals will have a good opportunity next season if they can clean up that defense

  14. Why would any Raider fan want Tomlin to come in when we’re about to draft a QB? He’s never shown the ability to develop a QB or hire a competent staff. In past years, I would’ve been good with it, but with a rookie QB, we need to think more long term and go after a young and innovative coach as opposed to a CEO type coach.

  15. >Tomlin, 53, leaves Pittsburgh with the unprecedented accomplishment of never having a losing season in nearly two decades at the helm of the franchise.

That’s beyond amazing. I know the Steelers offense was ass at times during his tenure, and they haven’t won a playoff game since the 2016 season, but the teams overall were ridiculously good.

It’s hard as a modern-day Raiders fan to imagine that kind of sustained success…

    Non-losing seasons from 2007 – 2025: Steelers 19, Raiders 5 (2010, 2011, 2016, 2020, 2021)

Seasons with more PF than PA: Steelers 15, Raiders 3 (2010, 2016, 2023)

  16. Just curious if you were guaranteed the Steelers results for the next 10 years ( no losing seasons, 7 game losing streak in the playoffs) do you as raiders fans take that?
