Jonathan Givony, one of ESPN’s more respected voices in NBA Draft coverage, announced on Thursday that he is leaving the company after an eight-year run as a draft analyst. The decision comes despite ESPN offering Givony a contract extension to remain with the network.

“My time at ESPN has come to an end,” Givony shared on social media. “Thanks to everyone, past and present, who helped me grow professionally the past 8 years.”

While Givony expressed gratitude for his time at ESPN, he noted that the two sides could not come to terms on a new deal that aligned with his perceived value to the company.

“Although ESPN offered an extension, we were unable to find alignment on my value to the company,” he wrote.

Givony joined ESPN in 2017 while working for the prospect evaluation company he founded called DraftExpress which was formed two decades ago. He quickly became one of the most visible figures in ESPN’s basketball draft coverage, appearing regularly across platforms to provide scouting reports, mock drafts, and analysis on prospects from in particularly overseas programs.

Despite leaving ESPN, Givony made it clear he isn’t stepping away from basketball analysis. He will continue his work through DraftExpress, which played a central role in elevating the scouting conversation around prospects well before they reached the national spotlight.

“I will continue to analyze the NBA Draft, college, high school, and international basketball, as I have the past 20+ years, at the company I founded, DraftExpress, alongside a fantastic team,” he said.

The timing of Givony’s announcement comes just as the international scouting calendar ramps up. He concluded his post by noting that he’ll be on-site at the FIBA U18 European Championship in Belgrade this weekend, continuing his deep dive into the next wave of basketball talent.

No replacement for Givony at ESPN has been announced as of Friday morning.
