Victor Wembanyama has indeed taken the basketball world by storm, imposing dominance on the court from the get-go. The 7’4″ San Antonio Spurs young prodigy is a force of nature, unlike anything we’ve ever witnessed in the NBA, who makes for a perfect blend of size and skill set.
Nicknamed The Alien for a reason, he has quickly emerged as one of the biggest attractions for the league. That said, Wembanyama had dealt with some injury hiccups of late, the most recent example being a scare when he bumped knees with Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Fortunately, it was nothing serious, with Wemby returning to the game shortly after and the Spurs getting the W over the Milwaukee Bucks. Watching two physical specimens like Victor and Giannis battling it out on the hardwood was something special, with the French big man having nothing but the highest regard for the Greek Freak and his achievements.
“I’m trying to learn as much as I can, even though you have to acknowledge that every situation, every story is different – even more so for foreign players like us. I’m nobody to judge how his career has unfolded. I have a lot of respect for what he’s doing on the court and what he continues to do.

I think he still has quite a few years ahead of him, and I’m very curious to see how the next chapter of his career will play out,”replied Wemby when asked what he could learn from the two-time MVP’s situation in Milwaukee.
Giannis and SGA are his top choices
Wemby had an incredible start to his 2025-26 campaign, making him an early favorite for MVP and DPOY. However, a left calf strain sometime back decided to play spoilsport, slowing down his momentum. In the process of recovering, the 2023 ROTY caught up with ESPN’s Mallika Andrews for an interesting conversation, discussing his health and career.

However, during the interview, Wemby was put on the spot when asked to name the NBA’s current best player.
“I think Jokic is the best offensive player. I don’t think he’s the best player. It’s hard to say, I think it’s between Giannis and Shai. When I come back on the court, I think it will be me,” said the 22-year-old.
I asked Victor Wembanyama who the best player is in the NBA..!
While Victor considered Giannis the best overall player today, the Bucks forward also had only great things to say about Wemby. The two international talents undoubtedly had inspiring journeys, carving out a niche for themselves in the NBA.

A nightmare in the making
Antetokounmpo, who has faced the best players in the business, knows what it takes to be on that level. He believes Wembanyama has that potential, and it is only a matter of time before he unlocks it, something the Greek Freak fears facing, but wants to do before he’s too old to compete.
“You want to play against the best. Like I can say I’ve played against Kobe, LeBron, KD, Steph, Jokic, Wemby, and a lot of other players. You want to have it on your resume – sign of respect. When I have four kids, I’ll be able to sit down on the couch and watch the clips with them and say like ‘I played against that guy. One time I dunked on him, one time I blocked him, but many other times he got me,” shared the two-time Bucks MVP.

One cannot help but agree with the Greek Freak’s take on Wemby, as it would be a delight to see the two physical specimens go at it on the court. Enthralling fans with their high-flying abilities, be it alley-oops, poster dunks, or even blocks.
