Day 9 of posting random White Sox players from the rebuild era

Adam “Got DFA’d for another Adam” Eaton
(2014-2016, 2021)

– A very respectable slashline of .290/.362/.422/.783 on his first stint the team. For a guy with relatively low expectations, that was good.

– Led the AL in triples in both 2014 and 2016 with 10 and 9 respectively.

– Famously referred to Drake LaRoche as a “leader” of the team.

– Got traded to the Nationals, became a .800 OPS hitter and then came back.

– He was very bad. For a team with WS aspirations, he was just not a guy who who offered much of any value. He sported a 75 OPS+ through 58 games, making him 25% less valuable than a league average hitter.

– Was DFA’d to call up Adam Engel from Triple-A for what felt like the millionth time.

Verdict: Very emblematic of the White Sox. A once solid player being brought back for sentimental values despite having an alarming injury history vastly underperforming. I still like Eaton though. He was a WS hero and beat the trash can bangers. All is forgiven for that in my eyes.

  1. The rare double stint player is here! 2021 was not a rebuild year but 2014 through 2016 totally were and I’m tired of acting like they weren’t.

“But 2017 was when they officially started to shed players and-“ Don’t care. The Sox finished fourth in the Central in three consecutive years from that time frame. That is effectively rebuilding even if the FO refused to call it that and called it ‘retooling’ instead.

  2. IIRC he was also notoriously hated in the sox clubhouse… so yeah bringing him back in 21 was a great idea by hahn and co.

  3. He’s not a “player” but can since you’re expanding the rebuild years, can we have a Drake LaRoche day?

  4. Fuck that guy, but he somehow resulted in giolito, Lopez, and Lynn (via dunning). More important to the rebuild than anyone except maybe Quintana.
