  1. He needs to. This team is awful and maybe a trade request will finally make them fix this shit.

Worked when Paul Pierce did it. Worked when Kobe did it.

  2. It is very possible if this kind of season happens to him again. He’s not Dirk, he’s not going to wait around well into his 30s. And if he does request a trade, can anyone blame him? He poured his everything into the game to carry the team just to be met with disappointment time after time.

  3. Luka will eventually leave if we dont construct a good roster. I’ve been saying this since the KP trade which is still a shit trade that most of you guys won’t admit. I still get private messages from time to time saying I’m an idiot for flaming the front office for all the shit decisions they’ve made. Fuck you guys and I told you sođź‘Ť

  4. Anyone with a brain and eyes saw this coming. Why would one of the top 5 players in the league want to work for incompetent ownership/management? Especially at the levels the Mavs are currently operating at. I don’t see this ending well at all unless radical changes are made

  5. The past 3 years were a masterclass in roster construction malpractice

  6. A lot of people on here would celebrate if Luka requested a trade because they actually do not like the Mavericks lol. Something about “teaching” Cuban or the FO or whomever a lesson, because their entire fandom is based on hating them.

  7. If this happens I will legitimately be fucking depressed in real life. And I can definitely see it happening. We’re a couple of moves not happening from being completely and utterly fucked

  8. Tim literally said the exact same thing in December on the Zach Lowe podcast

  9. I wouldn’t blame doncic at all, they have done a laughably incompetent job

  10. the FO fucked up big time by not doing anything last summer after jalen left..

  11. I know we (and Luka) hate to admit it and see it for what it is, but this tanking to end the season was the right move given the situation. The best outcome of the season was always going to be a huge up hill battle that would end up in bowing out without a finals appearance. The West is stacked right now and even when the team was rolling earlier this season we were talking about positioning against the right opponents for playoffs. Luka has been playing basketball for almost 2 years straight so physically he needs a LONG break. Not to mention the personal/off the court stuff he has alluded to.

So increasing odds significantly on keeping an asset by losing a few more games that was in reach and getting the Luka rest and getting some reps for young players seems like the right move. Ok the Kyrie front they are giving him the rest he needs as well and seemingly building the trust with him to potentially keep him. But if he decides he’s not sticking around then at least they have a healthy Kyrie and can offer most money in sign and trade to get more value/players out of it. Sucks to see the season end but it puts the team in a better position long term imo.

  12. Luka is untradeable. Period. KD, an older player, with skeletons in the closet and demanding a trade 2 times in 6 months, went for 4 picks and another guy that would’ve warranted another 4 in the open market (as reported). Luka, younger, without the bad rep of KD, without the injury record and under contract for 3 years, is untradeable. Even if he asks out, there’s no team ready to match the market price.

We need to do the right things moving forward, not the things that will only please Luka stans. Build a team to win instead of filling it up with over the hill veterans just to lose to the Nuggets in the 1st round.

  13. It really is concerning how media illiterate modern sports fans are. They fall for every single headline.

This is embarrassing. Tim is the definition of a hack.

  14. cuban has always been a snake – the most overrated owner in all of sports.

I remember when this cocky douchebag really tried to buy the rangers and dodgers lmfao

  15. Couple things here:

    1. I don’t blame Luka for being upset. Things have been “dumpster fire” esq lately. It’s also humiliating that we punted on a chance at the post season for a pick (even if it was logistically not a bad idea). I just think, from a player like Luka’s perspective, it’s cowardly to not give him and Ky a chance in the post season given how talented they are.

    2. Luka isn’t absolved. He’s an extremely poor defensive player which is based mostly on effort. I can’t tell you how many other all time greats have issues getting back and being engaged defensively. Sorry, love Luka, but he’s not perfect. Also, he whines way to much, which contributes to the bad defense (not getting back) and overall has an effect on the teams vibe. You go as your star goes, and when your star complains every time down the court and doesn’t hustle back, it has an effect. Lastly, he shows 0 willingness to play off ball. Most times he stands around half court with hands on hips of the ball isn’t in his hands. This is obviously an issue when playing with other stars.

    3. The package that would need to be put together for Luka would be absurd, to the point of being unrealistic. I just don’t see any team other than OKC who could make a serious play for him.. and why would he want to be in OKC? If they gutted the roster, would they be in a better spot than we currently are? I also think OKC would be better off with SGA, Giddey, Chet, etc. SGA himself isn’t as good as Luka, but damnit he’s really not that far off. This’ll get me down voted, but there’s an argument to be made that he’s not far off. He’s young, he’s a 30+ ppg scorer, he’s a good defensive player, and he can play without the ball in his hands.

    4. Mavs have leverage.

  16. Mark Cuban is a horrible owner time and time again he has fumbled the off season. Need to sell

  17. Okay MacMahon is a clown, but realistically I don’t see a path to turn this team into a true contender in the next two to three years. Hurr durr Wemby. Just shut up. We probably won’t get him Then what? Realistic trade and FA scenarios? I’m listening…lol

  18. I like Luka. Would you want to play for a franchise who won’t keep players and purposely tanks?

  19. Not a Cuban fan in any sense but at least spell his first name correctly in the article. Also not surprised by the article / rumor – he’s clearly not happy how they can’t build around him.

  20. Star player misses playoffs, reporter wants pay bump before next season starts and then ponders engagement bait ideas to bump up his numbers before going to execs…. oh what happens next

  21. Man these comments are a joke. You can tell who are actually fans of a team and just Luka stans. I don’t like Cuban but “humbling” doesn’t work with his type of personality. It would just ruin the team for the next decade. I care about the team that I have been watching for decades. I could care less who plays as long as we win and compete. Geesh yes we needed to tank the last 2 games and it’s been a disappointing team but I will never give up on my teams future. We fell in the ground this year but I’m confident we’ll get back to it next season.

  22. “Team sources acknowledge” “fear exists” “could request” “2024”

Lots of qualifiers there. Basically this just says what we all know. Mavs gotta fix things for next season.

  23. As if. Even if Luka demands a trade, he’s got 3 years remaining and won’t be moved because of that and the fans throwing Cuban out of the city if he’d trade him.

At the same time, the Mavs don’t have the assets to build a contender around Luka and he’ll certainly ask to be traded once his deal gives him enough leverage to do so.

So my guess would be that around 2026 Luka will be gone, and seeing how incompetent this front office is, they’ll be letting him go for one first, a star on an expiring contract he won’t resign in Dallas and a couple of 2nds while having traded their own picks up until 2029.

  24. I love Luka and want him to be here his whole career, but I don’t want to hear about him being frustrated until he comes into the season in shape, quits bitching to the refs all the time, and starts actually getting back on defense. Our front office is dogshit and doesn’t deserve him, but if he goes to another franchise and does the same things that he does here—he’s not any more likely to find success. Especially because whatever team trades for him is going to give up most anything they have of value that would’ve assisted him anyway

  25. I dont see Luka asking for a trade. He seems like a loyal guy. He still talks up Real Madrid, is loyal to his home country, and the Mavs should just keep cultivating that. He will play out his contract at the very least unless things get really bad here.
