  1. Is he going to trade our core four and get nothing in return? Seems like a recurring problem for him.

  2. Good to hear that Matthews outlook on signing with the Leafs hasn’t changed since they let go of Dubas

  3. I can imagine the Treliving interview.

Shanahan: Well, we have uncertainty with our star players at the moment. What experience do you have dealing with issues of that nature?

Treliving: I had a 100-point player that was uncertain. I traded him for another 100-point player plus a top pair defenseman and a 1st round pick. I’d say that’s good value.

Shanahan: Wait just a minute, Brad. Isn’t the 100-point player you traded away one game away from the Stanley Cup Final?

Treliving: Well, yes, but whose fault is that?

    Shanahan: …you’re hired.

  4. I don’t know why people are acting like this is doom and gloom. One of his star players utilized his right as a free agent and signed where he pleased, the other forced his way out of town. Many were predicting a complete rebuild and Treliving said screw it and revamped his team. On paper, they looked like a legit contender. The betting markets were high on them and lots of models had them as a top 5 team in the league. Dom from the Athletic had them 2 and his model is arguably the most reliable one out there. He did his job just fine, the players and coach just fell apart.

They were historically unlucky, their goalie went from Vezina finalist to one of the worst in the league, their superstar went from top 5 in Hart voting to third line plug and they still managed to finish 2 points out of the playoffs.

Generally he makes solid moves. The Toffoli deal was really solid, Tanev + Coleman signings have worked out great and I can’t think of any instances where he was outright fleeced. If you want to count the Tkachuk trade go for it but what else was he supposed to do in a situation like that?

He’s no “brilliant prodigy” like Dubas was hailed as. He’s also no Dinosaur way past his prime like Lou was by the time he arrived here. He’s just a solid hockey dude in his 50s and chances are this is the type of guy they’re going to hire. He’s just a solid GM that had a good run and was there forever, it was time for a change.

I know it’s not what this sub wants to hear, but you aren’t going to pull Sakic or Doug Armstrong from their teams. The pool of talent is guys you’ve never heard of (Kent Hughes type of hire) or guys who have been around the block but were eventually chased out of town and therefore everyone has a bad impression of them. It’s just an interview, I think Chiarelli still gets interviews and he’s widely regarded as the worst GM of this era.

  5. Hire me. I’ve been watching the Leafs since 85 with my Grandfather, though he passed in 2018. He was the most cerebral Leafs fan I’ve ever known. Still there in spirit. I am also a huge Wendel Clark fan and think Brendan Shanahan is the very bestest best. Pick me!

  6. Whoever they get will be the wrong choice. That’s a guarantee.

  7. Imagine comparing the moves Dubas has made to the moves Treliving has made and thinking Dubas has been better.

The delusion here is incredible. Let’s see your comparisons Dubites!
