Malik Willis Preseason Week 1 Analysis – The QB School

  1. Just watching the game it looked to me like he’s gotten better/more comfortable compared to last year. After watching the breakdown, I believe just trusting his instincts more would help him a lot, along with more reps to gain consistency. Overall, I think Malik can be a starter on a team in the future.

  2. Loved to see the development that Willis has shown from Year 1 to Year 2. Excited about Levis’s potential and to see his development as well. But the thing I’m most excited about is the offense (and new OC) we are running this year. It feels like we might finally join the rest of the league with a competent passing attack. Too many years have gone by watching film and seeing two receivers running routes with no one open and QB gets lit up. In this new scheme I’ve seen multiple plays with multiple open WRs! Unheard of in previous years. Fingers crossed it continues into the regular season.

  3. On the first throw watch Malik’s eyes. He stares down the deep receiver on the right the whole way, forcing the safety playing over the top to slide to that side of the field once the outside WR gets leverage on the DB.

The throw is impressive for several reasons, but look how his eyes stay locked on the deep reciever until he lets go of the ball, then *bloop* it’s a no-look inside to Chris Moore who is wide open after peeling away from the defender – who he appears to have let blow by him so he could peel back like that.

The awareness and coordination by everybody is pretty great. Malik from last year wouldn’t have made that throw. He’d have pulled it down and taken 6 scrambling yards up the right sideline at best.

  4. Malik mostly needs snaps right now. Hes so improved in just about every facet. He just needs more experience to get used to things. It’s almost like having his rookie season again
