The Eagles loss hurts the Packer’s playoff chances more than it may initially appear

Currently [NY Times](https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2023/upshot/nfl-playoff-picture.html) gives the Packers a 23% chance to make the playoffs, and a 95% chance if they win out. That gives the team some hope that if they play really good football they’ll sneak into the playoffs during an evaluation year.

There’s three serious teams that the Packers are racing against for the 6 and 7 seeds: Rams, Vikings, and Seahawks. Vikings play us and the Lions twice, so it’s probable they’d end up underneath a Packers team that wins out. Seahawks will end with a better record and have Titans and Steelers as their toughest games. They may lose one, but it’s very possible for them to win out and have a better record than the Packers.

That means a Ram loss is very needed if the Packers and Seahawks win out. At first glance, this seems likely since the Rams will be playing the unstoppable 49ers after relatively lax games against the Saints and Giants and is a significant part of that 95% calculation.

But if the 49ers win their next two games, they’ll be 13-3, with Eagles and Cowboys being at-best 12-4 both. That means the 49ers will have clinched the \#1 seed entering week 17 and will have no incentive to play a hard game against the Rams (who’ll need the win) and risk their starters too much.

Ultimately, we’re in this position because we threw away wins this year, but it’d be a little disappointing to win out and be on the outside of the playoffs.

tl;dr Fuck you Joe Barry for screwing us out of controlling our destiny.

  1. We did this to ourselves… loss two very winnable games… if we don’t make the playoffs there is nobody to blame but ourselves

  2. The playoffs are just about the last thing on my mind right now. I just want to see this team grow and hopefully stack success.

  3. Let’s take care of our business this weekend, and then hope for a few dominos to start falling beginning this Thursday; With New Orleans upsetting LA. Then give me JAX over TB and things start to look a bit better heading into Week 17.

Even if by some chance the Packers sneak in (hell, even if they were to win a game) I would be utterly shocked if MLF retains Barry. So I wouldn’t worry about a possible playoff run impacting things. He’s shown time and again that his best isn’t good enough.

I’m still delusional and want to see my team in the dance. Sue me.

  4. I don’t care at all about making the playoffs just to immediately get bodied. Let’s just work on the young guys more, maybe win two out of 3 and enjoy the potential we have in the coming years

  5. I am in the camp of not caring about the playoffs. I’d love to see them win out but I just really don’t care to see someone run for 340 yards against us in the first round.

  6. This whole season I have had no expectations of us making the playoffs. It’d be a nice surprise, but this year definitely feels like a testing-the-waters season.

  7. The Packers can only worry about what the Packers do. They had a situation where if they win, they are in. They squandered that by not winning. If they sneak in to the play offs, I guess that is fine but I am not going to stress over what other teams do.

  8. Seems like we’re destined for hard knocks. If no playoffs I want the better pick, Joe Barry shitcanned, and to beat the bears.

  9. Does anybody actually think that if they make the playoffs, that the Packers will do more than a first round exit?

  10. We talked about playoffs before and then lost to The Giants and Bucs in back-to-back games.

Would love a Green Bay Playoff appearance, but I’m not holding my breath for it, especially with such a weak defense right now

  11. Not even thinking about the playoffs at this point, but those last two games are personal. We need our getback against the Vikings, and the Bears need to know that Jordan is their new daddy.

  12. A Playoff game would be great for them as a confidence boost & bragging rights as the youngest team, but at the same time we have Joe Barry destroying the sacred Lambeau legacy.

  13. You better hope the Lions, Eagles, or Cowboys win out and the Ravens beat the 49ers. That way the 49ers have something to play for

  14. Packers playoff odds really are realistic. These are winnable games, and Seahawks or Rams are destined to lose at least 1 game. Upsets happen all the time

  15. We’re not a playoff team.
If it means we get rid of Barry I’m perfectly fine by not making the playoffs.
