MLB Active Hits Leaders – How does this list end?

  1. These days of great players with your typical hall of fame counting numbers are over. There won’t be any 3,000 hit guys for a long long time.

  2. Hosmer gets 300 hits a year, 70 being home runs.  100 walks.  200 gidp.

This for the next 10 years.

  3. Altuve ends with 3,100. An error ruled an in-field hit against the Angels, helps the Astros late in the game down 1. Jose leaves the field for the final time being pinch-run for. There are boos, reminiscent of a time soon after the scandal had broken. Astros fans in the stadium cheer, some with visible sadness, knowing this is it. The end of an era for Astros baseball, It’s also a turning point for the franchise, as the long healing process begins. Everyone else on this list astonishingly ends with 2,999.

  4. Probably ends with a pitcher who played in a few games before the universal dh and only has one or two career hits.

  5. Damn I didn’t even realize McCutchen was still considered active.

Altuve’s still young enough, having 2K already means he can make it to 3K. Through effectively 12 seasons, since 2020 was so short and his debut was in July, he’s at 2047. At that pace, he’d break the mark in his age 39 season, but even expecting a decline, he should get there if he plays into his forties.

Machado’s even younger–he only came up one year after Altuve, but he had only just turned 20 at the time. He’s 31, so with 1737 hits, he’s also on pace to get there in his late thirties, maybe early forties.

  6. I’ve been a rangers fan for a LONG time.

I had no idea Elvis was this high on the active list.

  7. Freeman is the only one on this list to reach 2700, Machado comes close but falls just short, most of these players will have less than 200 more hits the rest of their careers

  8. Machado has an outside chance, maybe Freeman or Altuve if they play another decade. Nobody on this list is closer than 8 years away IMO.
