Curious where people land on this one. Debate away!

  1. I consume a lot of Commies media and consider myself pretty good at reading the tea leaves. Just based on what some key guys have put out, I’m almost positive we’re drafting Jayden Daniels at 2. Maye being mocked so high seems mostly hype based, there’s a good number of GM types around the league that just aren’t seeing it. Randy Mueller just compared him to a larger Mac Jones on Keim’s show. Now Mac Jones is an NFL qb, but clearly that type of qb is not gonna get us where we want to go.

You can come to your own conclusions about JD, but for me he passes the eye test. This dude is fast as fuck boi, and can make every throw on the field with good deep ball accuracy. He’s getting the Lamar treatment where they’re trying to shit on his passing bc he’s dual threat, but watch the tape, he’s a good passer. Stretch teams with the long game and rock them up front with B Rob, C Rod, and designed QB runs. Pocket breaks down? Genuinely good luck catching Daniels bc he’s outta that bitch like Houdini.

I think the HC is going to be the #1 factor in what ultimately happens, but personally I am 100% in on Daniels.

edit: Clearly many prefer Maye to Daniels. I don’t see it, but you can be thankful I don’t make the call

  2. Where to start? Mel Kiper had Malik Willis going 11th overall and Will Levis going 5th overall. He said he would retire if Jimmy Clausen wasn’t a franchise QB. He probably should have followed through on that. I don’t give his opinion much weight at all.

  3. Daniels is good but Maye is two years younger and weighs more. Daniels also have very good wide receivers like Malik Nabers.

  4. The more I see plays from Jayden Daniels vs Drake Maye, the more l like Daniels. On one of the more recent Junkies shows, someone asked if Daniels is RG3 speed or if he’s more elusive like Lamar Jackson and they said he’s more like Lamar Jackson.

There was one run from Lamar Jackson this weekend that just stunned me and if I find the clip, I’ll definitely link it, but Lamar is able to start and stop so quickly and he’s smart with the way runs and evaluates space that it makes him unstoppable.

I see a bit of that in Jayden Daniels. He’s smart with his runs and he’s not reckless. Also… let’s draft one of his WRs. Get ourselves a Burrow-Chase stack that I can draft in fantasy. Lol

  5. I like Jayden Daniels a lot and I think he can be dynamic but I’m almost willing to bet money that if we hire Ben Johnson as HC, we are drafting Drake Maye. I can see him wanting to run a similar scheme as what he ran with Jared Goff.

  6. hopefully neither. QB is not the issue. protecting said QB and getting the opposing QB off the field is.

  7. He is a 6’4″ bean pole. “Adding weight to his frame” is key here. If he can’t take a hit and ends up on the bench injured he might as well be useless. Durability matters.

  8. For the love of god don’t take Daniels it’s not that I don’t think he will be good I just see to much fields in him I think drake maye is a Trevor Lawrence/ Justin Herbert type of qb he’s easily gonna be a top 10 qb one day

  9. That former GM Keim had on his podcast said he wasn’t impressed by Maye. He did like Daniels, tho

  10. No way MHJ doesn’t go top 3, but Jayden Daniel’s reminds me of Lamar and if the coaches were really sold on him I see no reason we couldn’t trade back with someone who wants MHJ and still snag him. I really can’t convince myself on Drake Maye I just don’t see it

  11. Maye’s college stats are almost identical to Howell’s stats at UNC, and their build is almost identical. We’d be replacing Sam Howell with another Sam Howell and spending the number 2 pick doing so. If Williams is off of the table then it should be Harrison Jr or Daniels. The last UNC product didn’t work out too well for us.

  12. Sources are telling me Daniel Snyder has become infatuated with JJ McCarthy and is considering a trade to the #1 pick to make it a reality. Stay tuned…

  13. Both Maye and Daniels make me nervous.  For all the reasons that people throw out there.  So I think I’m leaning Daniels for the dual threat upside.

  14. I dunno. I’m a maye fan, but hearing Keim’s interview today and seeing this, I’m glad I’m not drafting. I have a feeling Peters will lean towards daniels given his multidimensional aspect. It will be intriguing to watch how this rolls out. I’ll be happy with either if it’s peters picking him. That feels nice to say.

  15. No way I’d pick Daniels over Maye, but we’ll see how it shakes out. A lot of Daniels’ big time throws come outside the numbers and it’s tough to consistently make a living on that in the league.

Watch the tape and you see first, second, third level throws from Maye. Out routes, in routes, layering the ball over linebackers in tight windows over the middle of the field. It’s really not all that close imo.

Not saying Daniels won’t be able to make those throws in the NFL, just haven’t seen a ton of it to this point and he’s started a lot more games than Maye between Arizona State and LSU.

  16. Drake Maye is tall Sam Howell. Might as well just trade back and get a tackle and let Sam develop.

  17. Maye has the worst accuracy out of all the big name QBs in college. He can get good but it’s going to take a lot of work and development like a josh allen. Daniels would be my choice just because his ceiling is higher to me and he obviously had a way better college career in the SEC. He won the fucking heisman this year lol.

  18. I love Daniels, but one major key to his leap in productivity from last year to this year was the fact that that he was behind a VERY solid offensive line this year. I fully believe that was the biggest enabling factor for him to transition from a run-first dual threat QB to a passer who can get through progressions with elite escapability when needed.

This seems to get overlooked a lot in the debate, but is extremely relevant to the prospect of Washington drafting him.
