Trade Deadline

Not sure how reliable Stein is regarding Sixers news, but the wording here makes me think anything we do is extremely marginal. Possibly nothing considering the Embiid news.

  1. If embiids out, we should be selling. Batum is retiring, we don’t have oubres bird rights, and Melton is an UFA. See if we can squeeze an unprotected first out of the lakers or something

  2. Was going to post this – if all we are doing is looking at the buyout market (and Kyle Lowry isn’t doing anything for this team) then they are indeed punting on this season.

What I don’t understand is how they are actually going to fill a team next year if Morey is going totally with the cap space plan. Most things I have read say they could have $60 mill or so in space, but that’s only if they renounce the rights to everyone except Springer, Maxey and Embiid. At that point, I don’t think they have bird rights on anyone like Harris or Melton. So you have $60 million, two really good players, and nothing else in a free agent market where the best players might be Klay Thompson and Tobias Harris? What exactly is Morey planning on doing? Running a Phoenix setup with three “stars” (even if we trade for one instead of signing one) and just minimums every where else seems like the worst possible plan considering one of those stars never makes it through an entire season unscathed and will be coming off some sort of knee procedure and is getting older.

  3. In the same vein as Bryan Toporek declaring himself a Thunder fan and all is lost when we were going to “lose Harden for nothing” – do you think Morey has likely done some planning around these potential events?

  4. Nothing is a given. There is no way we use assets in an effort to salvage this season.

We should be sellers. Get picks for every expiring contract we can.
