  1. Welcome to LA! I’m a native Clevelander but have lived in Los Angeles for nearly 15 years.

Regarding beaches, Santa Monica is super touristy, and for the most part isn’t really the beach to go to unless you want more of an east coast/Florida beach experience with frigid water instead of warm water. If you have a rental and some free time, most of Malibu has much better beaches and are super scenic and vibey.

There isn’t a lot of great food near Staples, but there are some good food places within walking distance downtown. I would recommend you hit up Grand Central Market for food, it literally has everything, and isn’t too far from ya. Near there is an awesome local taco chain called Guisados. Btw, by spanish I’m guessing you mean mexican food? LA is known for its mexican food. I would highly recommend Guisados.

If you have a bit more time to do touristy things I would highly recommend hitting up Griffith Park Observatory. It’s on the edge of Hollywood, and is about a 45-60 minute walk/hike from the Hollywood/Western underground Metro station. You can take the Metro all the way from staples, to Hollywood, and even Universal Studios. The Metro Red Line doesn’t have many stops, and is very easy to navigate compared to the subway system in NY. It gets a lil weird at night, but I have ridden it all hours of the day and never had too much of an issue.

You can even get to Santa Monica by transferring trains at the 7th street metro station, it a pretty long train ride, but worth checking out if you really want to see that part of town. If you end up taking the Red Line to Hollywood area, Los Feliz neighborhood and Vermont or Hillhurst street are great places to check out authentic local food and vibes, same with Franklin Village in Hollywood.

I would recommend avoiding the Hollywood Walk of Fame, it’s a tourist trap, nothing really to see there, and again I would say the same for Santa Monica. There really is a lot to do just downtown though, Angels Flight, Last Bookstore, The Broad, Grand Central Market, Little Tokyo, and more!

    Enjoy your stay!!!

  2. I’m going to Cavs @ Charlotte tomorrow! Looking forward to my annual opp to see the boys ball in person 💪🏼
