Yet he doesn't meddle….
John Mara said the Giants didn’t trade Saquon Barkley with a 2-6 record last season for two reasons: They were still trying to win, and Mara was still hoping to re-sign him. @PLeonardNYDN https://t.co/9fMLKIAc6D

“Mara doesn’t meddle”
“He had no role in re-signing Jones”
“it made sense for a brand new FO under extreme cap pressure to wildly overpay Shep to do nothing for two years”
Is this supposed to imply that we had an offer for saquon and it was worth taking?
This guy is the new Dolan
There’s no new ground broken here. Jones got KOed for the season right after the trade deadline and I think the team thought they could make a run to respectability in the second half of the season. It might’ve been different if the deadline was a week later.
If Schoen and Daboll felt it was right to trade him, he would’ve been traded.
Mara wants to win, but doesn’t try to win.
The fact that he said saquon leaving is proof that he doesn’t meddle, after confirming that he did not want to trade Barkley during the season is insane
Mara is a meddler and probably has the same thoughts on Jones.
If we could have gotten anything close to decent 2nd rounder then it would be malpractice to have not traded him
Once again, Mara is the problem.
Hoping to? Then why didn’t they make an offer? This makes no sense.
I’m sure he meddles on occasion if he feels strongly about something. It’s his right, he owns the damn team and that was our franchise and most marketable player. Do I prefer he let the experts do their job, definitely, but I understand he’s going to get involved once in a while. That said, shit, we should have traded Barkley. Might have got a late round pick plus lost 1 or 2 more games.
I’m starting to realize Mara is who basketball fans think James Dolan is….just less asshole-ly.
Dolan has acted like a dickhead in the past, but the one thing I will always give him credit for is learning to take a step back and let the FO (Leon Rose & co.) handle basketball operations without meddling. And as a result, the Knicks have the best team we’ve had in decades.
Mara unfortunately has not learned that yet and is costing this franchise.
Sooo is this a sign that Jones isn’t going anywhere anytime soon?
Everytime Mara starts talking like this i feel like hes giving a warning he’s getting ready to fire someone.
And there’s people still here who think Mara isn’t one of the main issues with the Giants franchise. At 2-6 the season was over. When they tagged Barkley his Giants career was over.
We need an owner who lives in reality and lets FOOTBALL people run the FOOTBALL team.
This probably the worst thing he’s ever done I swear
What. A. Fucking. Moron.
I’m in the camp of “it is what it is”
He’s a dirty bird now and I hate him. Nothing personal.
We are fans of the 2024 Giants now, not the 2023 Giants. Keep moving forward.
Who cares.
I love all the backseat GMs in this sub playing Madden and acting like there aren’t other considerations beyond their personal evaluation of a player. I bet it’s a lot harder to just trade guys you have a personal relationship with who also happen to be the face of the franchise and a key personality in the locker room when owning the team is literally your family’s business. Downvote me to oblivion, please, but I’ve had enough of this “Mara is a clown show” bullshit. Would I have traded him? Probably. I didn’t want to draft him. But it’s not as simple as these armchair morons make it out to be.
if joe schoen was hoping to re-sign him. good, fine, whatever.
if they didn’t trade him because mara still wanted to re-sign him, thats a whole different ball of wax and leads to different questions.
Can someone sew that moronic nepo baby’s mouth shut please? For his sake
This is good news for the eagles possibly owing us a pick for violating the pre tampering thingy I think
I love how he claims he doesn’t meddle yet he’s always meddling
Mara is stupid.
Realistically what trade for Saquon would have made yall happy? Because Williams went for a second and a fifth but him saying let’s not move an offensive weapon when we’re down to our UDFA QB seems like a solid trade off
